A town rich with local history and many historic sites to show for it, Mechanicsburg was originally founded in the 19th century by settlers who built and repaired covered wagons. This legacy is celebrated every New Year’s Eve when Mechanicsburg drops a wrench to remember all of the mechanics who have come before. The town played a significant role in the Civil War as the site of the northernmost battles of the war. Popular historic sites in Mechanicsburg include the Station Masters House, built in 1863, and the Frankenberger Tavern, which was founded in 1901 and is allegedly haunted.
Mechanicsburg is also famous for its Jubilee Day street fair, which runs for an entire day during the second week of June. Held on Market Street, which is home to a number of boutique shops and restaurants, it’s the region’s longest street fair and features food, games, crafts, and rides.
