Trying for Improvement

All my ratings are based on my experience prior to COVID. I did take my loved one out of the community right as the the pandemic was starting. There was constant staff shortages, this was a problem. They did have some staff that were very dedicated. On the weekends, you may only have 4 people to cover all the resident's rooms. I didn't feel this was the care that I was expecting for my loved one. The Executive Director was wonderful. She was wanting to make changes and was open to feedback from me.

The Pines of Mt Lebanon

I checked out numerous Assisted Living Centers around the Mount Lebanon PA area from December 2019 thru January 2020. [Name removed] at The Pines of Mt Lebanon provided me great information on how to get Veteran Benefits for my Dad, who served in the Korean War. (As a result, we were able to supplement our parents income with the VA benefits). After checking out several centers, we made the decision to place our parents in The Pines mid March, around the COVID-19 crackdown. [Name removed] and staff have taken excellent care of our parents.

This is a very nice place. Everyone was very welcoming and knowledgeable. The only thing I didn't like were the room sizes

This place is going downhill quick!!!

Absolutely HORRIBLE care. Mom has been here almost 5 years and her care has gotten worse as each day passes. They had a remarkable nursing staff here when we first moved her here but because of them always being short staffed and overworking all the good employees that they had, they all started leaving and finding better jobs. They have lost many good, caring aides because of them being overworked. The housekeeping is absolutely HORRIBLE now too! Soiled furniture everywhere and no place to sit when visiting. Strong smell of urine. Again, they lost a great laundry person and a remarkable housekeeper for the same reason. Whole building is filthy! Kitchen staff keeps quitting too, so much that managers are serving meals most of the time. Activities lost a great employee whom all the resident adored! Same pattern in each department...it’s tome to start looking for new options for Mom. Explore your options and did deep before bringing a loved one here!

The Marketing Director and Building Director were great - lovely, helpful, friendly, informative and very warm with the residents. The aesthetics were nice and the facility is lovely. The pet birds are GREAT! The kitchen staff did not seem thrilled. Didn't get to meet any other staff in memory unit. Other facilities were BRIGHTER and the Memory Unit day staff overall seemed warmer, and environments more loving, warm and dedicated at 2 other places. This was 3rd choice out of 5 we saw.

Working things out

There were a few small things when my husband first moved in that have been resolved. The head nurse in charge did not pay attention to my complaints. When I would ask a question or ask for something to be done she would just throw her hands in the air and keep doing what she was working on. Most of the staff is nice. They do not change him on regular basis but they do shave him daily and cleanse him so he does not smell. Things are getting better. Toiletries are kept locked up behind the counter at the nurse's station in the memory care unit so when I want it I have to go and ask. They have promised to check my husband every two hours but have not been doing that. Food is good and warm, my husband really likes it here. They also take him on field trips out to dinner. Sundays we go out together and I take him to the Casino and out to dinner.
