Quality of care - I believe Mom is being very well-cared for, but I would like a little more information to be shared with me about her care without having to email/call and ask follow up questions. Meals - Mom is a VERY picky eater, and yet the most negative thing she has said was "oh, I didn't like their main dish last night so I got a hamburger." Not unhappy, not expecting they cater to her, just commenting. I consider that high praise, not to mention that sometimes she's ebullient about her delicious meal! Value for cost - Juniper is pricey. Price was not our first issue, but all the other factors were. So we agreed to the price. Juniper is SO nice that we toured there first and signed up without touring anywhere else. My internet "tours" and research had put Juniper way ahead, which is why we went there first. Mom worries about being able to afford it (family are able to fill any gaps that do occur), and she still wishes she could be independent, but she never suggests she would be better off anywhere else (even in her own home!). So my rating here is a combination of "more expensive than some nearby, albeit not as nice" places" and "I would like more insight into Mom's day to day care" (I do not live in Pittsburgh). this is the right place for my Mom!... We , with a loved one in memory care, have been extremely disappointed with management, total lack of communication throughout the facility, no periodic team care-planning meetings in which we were supposed to participate as promised by marketing, except when requested by our advocate, other marketing misinformation - glaringly and most importantly a caregiver to resident ratio of 1:6 - never witnessed that. as explained prior to placement, Physician's Assistant (we've NEVER met the facility doctor though promised we'd meet within a week following placement)and except for a very few caregivers who have devoted a lifetime to providing care and a few exceptionally skilled new hires, caregiving is far below satisfactory for our loved one. When you telephone the main "switchboard" the recorded message glitters. In reality Juniper Village South does sadly NOT measure up in terms of Memory Care for our loved one. There is much guilt in our decision to place him here.

Our family had many tours scheduled trying to locate best fit for our mother. The staff and welcoming team at Juniper Village at South Hills was a nice warm feeling touch. The facility is nice, clean, bright and vibrant full of energy. Very nice place.
We did not actually get to tour with Juniper Village but they were great about sending over all the information about their facility and following up with me, even after I had told them we went with another facility.
Mom loves the food . They have two hours of activities, in the morning and afternoon. They have had sing-alongs, baby ponies, arts/crafts, word association games-there is a lot of activities. If your loved one mother has dementia, they keep them stimulated. There is in house physical therapy, and an in house medical nurse and doctor. The care is very good for dementia patients. They keep them going and active. Mom likes to walk around and chat. They even painted all doors different colors-orange-blue-yellow, so it also keeps them stimulated visually.

When we took the tour what initially stood out to us was the overall cleanliness of the community. It is so clean and there are no fowl odors anywhere within the community. We like that we can pretty much come and go as we please, but sometimes the communication with the upper administrative staff could be improve, at times it is lacking.

The staff is very friendly and they do a great job taking care of my loved ones. The food could be better but they do offer activities for the residence to participate in. I would recommend this community based on my experience.

Response from Juniper Village at South Hills
June 1, 2021Thank you JB for sharing your experience! We appreciate your feedback - both positive and constructive!
From what we can see on the first floor everything is very clean and very beautiful. All of the staff members are nice and we do think they give great care services. We have not heard of any complaints from our loved one about the food, in fact she is doing much better there then she would be at home. The value is very reasonable and we cannot believe we are getting this good of care for the cost. They have been very accommodating, and when you come to visit they have a small room you are allowed to go into to. Also, if it is nice out you can sit outside around the small lake.

This place looked good from tour I took, but promised me they’d take good care of my mother but didn’t even try to accommodate mothers simple needs! Poor management took month 1/2 to put a screw on a broken door! They tell you what you want to here but do nothing about concerns! Moving mother ASAP extremely dissatisfied...

The facility is well kept and clean, the atmosphere is friendly, cheery and positive. The staff takes extraordinary efforts to accommodate the residents and there are many fun and innovative activities going on. The residents we talked with are very pleased with the facility, the décor and amenities, and feel comfortable in their new community and truly feel at home.

January 4, 2018Thank you for taking the time to share your review of our community; we appreciate your feedback!
The MAIN personal care unit seemed lovely. Nice, pretty, comfortable facility. Friendly staff in both main and memory unit. Drawbacks are with the memory unit: Not a pleasant aesthetic. Residents were just sitting in chairs head down to chest, No stimulation or interaction w/memory care residents when we visited. No dedicated outside space for just memory unit.

This is an outstanding community.I like the care that he is receiving. The community is cleaning and the staff is friendly. I think that they might try and give him more options on his special diets needs. They do offer activities for the residents. I would suggest that other families tour this community for the care of a loved one.

June 14, 2017Thank you for sharing your confidence in us; we appreciate your recommendation of our community! Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Executive Director with any questions or concerns. Thanks!
My loved on is still here at the community, I was not really happy with the outcome from an incident. Things came up that I saw that was surprising to me. The aids were on their cell phones when I tried to help loved one I had to ask them and bring it to their attention. This is a top notch place and I didn't expect to have to look for help. The higher up medical staff are great, it's their team that needs improvement.

I was very excited to recommend the Harbour to one of my clients family. Went for a tour and their daughter was very happy with what she had seen and was told. I am a CNA and had gone to the Harbour on many visits with home health agencies. I had given a very high recommendation . We were told we would be put on list. So as weeks went by we called to see how things were going. We were told they would have a room soon , more time goes by still nothing. Finally I called and spoke with a representative of the facility and was told should not be much longer that there would be a room soon situation was told to me I will not post that. Well as we waited no calls no notifications . Told to contact Sunrise of the South Hills same treatment. Very disappointed with the way the Harbor handle this matter. Would not recommend again..

December 9, 2016We were sorry to learn you had a negative experience, and we would like to apologize for any miscommunication. We would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your experience, and invite you to reach out to our team at our community phone number with any additional feedback. Thank you for your time.
I came for a tour, but they didn't offer respite stay as an option, so I didn't really stay and take the tour. However when I came in, just from what I saw it looked fine. I didn't see anything concerning, or alarming at all. They just didn't offer what we needed. I do appreciate them being up front with me though, and not stringing me along, and wasting our time.

Response from Juniper Village at South Hills
April 9, 2015We are disappointed to hear that your father did not have a more satisfactory experience here at Harbour of South Hills. Our Team would welcome the opportunity to meet with you in an effort to improve our Community. Please do not hesitate to call if you would like to set up a meeting. Sincerely, Dana Wright [removed].
Since I moved my mom to Harbour on 9/8/14 I have seen a 100% turn around in her life. She is more social, moving around the community herself. She is so happy now because the people are so friendly there and it is like a resort rather than a nursing home. Her mind is working like it use to and now she is able to have her own belongings there. It is not a hospital atmisphere and is only 5 mins from my home. I hope she can live the rest of her life there HAPPY.
