The Continental is an older facility, but maintained well. The staff is friendly and make the effort to remember the names of the new residents. The move in was smooth and uneventful. I have been impressed with the friendliness and acceptance of the new residents from both the current residents and the staff. To me, that is more important than the physical property.

A nice place for your family member to live.
The Continental is a very nice, comfortable, safe, convenient place to live with a lot of friendly people. And it's well priced. The apartment is a little bit small for a one bedroom, but it's fine otherwise.

My Tour Experience at The Continental Retirement Community
This was a nice community, but the overall atmosphere and appearance wasn't as homey and comfortable as another community we saw. Also, I didn't like the location as much.
The associate that gave the tour was very informative and thorough. She answered all my questions with patience and understanding. She also followed up with phone calls until I had made my choice on a community.

Good Value for the Price
The Continental is a good value for the cost. The housekeeping and server staff are kind and attentive. The residents are a fantastic group of people! Inclusive and welcoming!
The biggest drawback is the food service. I concur with Thomas' review in February, " Major adjustments to the kitchen and food service must be addressed. Older residents treasure their mealtimes."
The Continental website states:
"24/7 Dining
We go beyond all-day dining so you can enjoy gourmet food prepared from the freshest ingredients by our Executive Chef any time of day or night"
This hasn't been the case. The complaints I hear most often are that the food is not great, sometimes just bad, and occasionally not available at all.

THE CONTINENTAL RETIREMENT COMMUNITY WAS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY MY MOTHER'S PRIMARY PHYSICIAN LOCATED IN SOUTH AUSTIN BASED ON HER PAST AND PROGRESSED MEDICAL CONDITION. MY MOTHER AND I WERE WERE INSTANTLY IMPRESSED BY THE BEAUTIFUL GREEN SCENERY AS WE DROVE INTO THE CONTINENTAL RETIREMENT COMMUNITY PROPERTY. WE WERE MET BY THE STAFF MEMBERS WHO WERE VERY WELCOMING AND PREPARED TO MEET WITH US. THE FOYER HAD THE APPEARANCE AND PRESENCE OF HOME WITH MANY ADDED BONUSES SUCH AS A LARGE FISH TANK, BABY GRAND PIANO AND A FUR BABY (P.S.) MY MOTHER THOUGHT IT WAS REAL. WE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE CONSULTATION, TOUR OF THE LIVING FACILTIES AND EACH FLOOR CONTAINED AN AREA TO DO LARGE PUZZLES, ENJIOY A GOOD BOOK OR THE COMPANY OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS. WE RECEIVED EXCELLENT INFORMATION AND MET SOME OF THE MEDICAL STAFF ON SITE WHO WERE VERY WELCOMING AS WELL. ALSO, WE MET THE CHEF WHO WAS A CURRENT RESIDENT. WE ENJOYED HIS GOOD CONVERSATION AND THE SMELL OF FOOD THAT HE HAD PREPARED!

As Comfortable as Any Home
Family-like atmosphere. Everyone looks out for each other. You can be as busy as not, whatever suits you personally. Lovely friends here. Pretty trees to walk near. Convenient location to all stores and doctors.

The Continental had a great vibe. They had a nice staff, who gave a great tour. The apartment they showed us was nice. However, the layout of the facility was in a long line, like a train, and we just felt that one of our loved ones with memory and spatial challenges would be more apt to get lost. There was more distance from the apartments to the dining room, and more decisions to make along the way. We completely understand this is independent living, and this was just was our particular situation. There was absolutely nothing at all wrong with The Continental. We thought it was a nice place!

Amazing!
We still can't believe we found this place! Truley a hidden gem. The staff is super friendly and helpful and every resident you encounter has a smile on their face. The food is wonderful, not what you would expect from a retirement home. We made the right choice.

The staff wasn’t particularly outgoing or pleasant. Maybe they were busy, but it just wasn’t overly welcoming. The sales person was nice, but of course that's their job. They seemed to be very accommodating though. They remodel the rooms before people come in, and they were going to remodel according to my loved one's preferences.

Fabulous to Live
The people make the community. They are very friendly and feels like family. There are residents that have been here for 18 years plus.
The chef is great at making the food, interacting with the residents, and catering to their requests.

Friendly and Comfortable Living
Everybody is very nice, the staff and the people living there. The apartments are lovely. They're spacious and arranged nicely. There's not a large grounds or anything, and the residents have tiny little patios, but good enough to sit outside. Not enclosed though, so mosquitos. Pet frindly community. It's in a great location near a lot of shopping and activities. They've had a problem with getting cleaning people to come in, but I think they've sorted it all out now. She doesn't love the food, but she's used to different kind of food. They serve a lot of casseroles and things where she's not exactly sure what she's eating. It's just not quite he quality she had a different place.

We chose The Continental because it is very convenient to where I live. My brother only had a 1 bedroom but they offered different sizes as well depending on your needs. He really liked the food and they were chef prepared meals. I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff members as well. I would recommend to others looking.

No better retirement community in Austin!
I relocated my father from Amarillo to Austin Continental and he loved everything about it, the staff was great, the people living there became good friends and he loved the food! He loved all the activities and the comradery of all the lovely people, he enjoyed everyday. He considered the Continental as his home in every way. We can’t say enough good things about the love and kindness he received from everyone he had the privilege to know there. Thank you all so much!

We toured with [name removed] and she was very pleasant. Everyone here seemed very happy, people living there was telling us how much they loved it. Seemed to have many activities. Downfall, seemed dated, not much outdoor spaces as far as waling trails, swimming pool, not doggie yards. At this time would be my 2nd choice.
