General Overview

They haven't disappointed me yet. As long as you're involved and ask a lot of questions, you should be fine. The staff are pretty good. Sometimes in the afternoon/early evening I don't see a lot of staff around. The food is fine. They have a lot do as far as activities, and they try all the time to get my loved one involved.

Our families experience

We do know it was during covid and it was before the employment situation with any care givers got to critical shortages. There were some decent employees, 3 out of the 4 receptionist were very helpful, but once was cold and not helpful. Some of the care staff were top notch people, but the director of nursing was not. We could visit them inside a complete glass box only, we did not have access to our loved ones apartment. House keeping did not change our loved ones beds for 2 months. Not confident in their care at all.

What You See Isn't What You Get

They have a set meal plan, and they don't give an additional choice if the resident doesn't like what is served. The community has a lot of turnover of staff. The activities director is awesome, and tries to get my loved one involved in activities. The front desk attendants are wonderful. If the current Executive Director was there a year ago, I wouldn't have put my loved one in this community. I am currently looking for a new community for my loved one.

Window Dressing Not Much Substance

I wasn't impressed with the community. They ignored my loved one and brought the meals to them due to the pandemic. They only tried half-hearted to engage my loved on with activities. The food looked like Gordon foods. It didn't seem that the community put little effort into the meals during the pandemic. The dining room food was better, prior to COVID. I was able to do window visits, this was the highlight of the stay here.

Compared to the other communities we spoke with, the First & Main of Auburn hills was very reasonably priced. They also are very cooperative with our loved one.

Beautiful Community, But Lacked Follow Through In Leadership

Most of the staff are very caring; however, they don't keep track of a lot of their employees. The care for the residents than lacks due to this. The communication wasn't good within the community when I had to call for my loved one.

Definitely consider this community

The staff members at First & Main are very friendly, and are very social. They had some issues with staffing during COVID, but when they are staffed they are very good. It is a fairly good value, and the reason we picked this community is we believed they had the residents care on top priority. They seemed to be really concerned about everyone's well being. The rooms are very nice, our loved one is in a one room suite, it is perfect for her and she is comfortable. From our understanding the seems to be enjoyed the food.

Very high turnover, poor care, lack of respect to family members. Lack of accountable when concerns or issues arise. Many caretekers have "attitude" problems and really run the place. Residents do not like it but afraid to tell the Management. I would not recommend at all even with the New Management.

Do not be fooled by the "atmosphere" and looks of this Assistant Living. Many 'attitudes' by the staff, lack of good care, chronic issues do not get resolved ie., like feces left on toilet seat and no one takes responsibility of cleaning, it up., caretakers "not my job" .. so in the meantime your loved one cannot go to bathroom...gross yes but that has been our experience. Any complaint is not taken seriously and becomes a "he said- she said" scenario. Many residents are not happy but afraid to tell the management. The new management does communicate changes and all of sudden you are charged on your invoice. It lacks team work among caretakers and the rest of the staff. At times, some staff , caretakers very rude and to the family member. Once you complain you are "labeled" by the caretaking staff and your love one will be treated unfairly. Please do not have the owners response to this review to contact the executive director, [name removed] for help since that doesnt resolve anything. Will never forget the first time meeting with new director, explaining not happy, wanting to take my mom away. His comments back "would you like a referral" . #frustrated caretaker of mom

Mom fell last night, no call from the staff when they found her on the floor. I received a call at 6 am morning she fell last night. This is NOT NORMAL for an assistant living failure to contact family. They do not know what happen and how it happen- but I am with my mother at the hospital now. Short staff leads to long waits to care for anyone.

Talk to the residents about their experience- looks can be deceiving- Hard to get help, for senior during breakfast, lunch and dinner times. Seems that all of the aids makes that a priority then helping someone to the bathroom at that time. Think they need help with caretakers- Communication is a key with all caretakers and some sort of follow up with family members on a timely basis would really eliminate the issues and concerns with the staff. In another words, what is going to happen and when for addressing issues and concerns. Would like to converse with David.

So beautiful, spacious and modern assisted living units, and the memory care is almost the same. I would love to live there when my times comes--if I could afford it. It's very expensive. I'd feel very good about having my father there, if he were more able to appreciate the amenities.

Assisted Living for Hospice Patient

When I first called First & Main, I asked how assisted is assisted living? My Mom who had been mobile and living at home with my Dad, was now in the hospital and had been told she had cancer with weeks left to live. She was going into hospice and we needed to decide where to have her stay. In the week she was in the hospital, she went from mobile, to needing a lot of assistance and we thought that would be too much for my Dad at home. First & Main in Auburn Hills was 1 mile from their home so I called them. From the moment Mom moved in the staff was wonderful. They were very attentive to her needs and to my Dad and family who were all struggling with how quickly Mom was fading. They checked in with her every 45 minutes to an hour around the clock to make sure she was comfortable. All of the hospice nurses and staff that came to see Mom, all remarked on how beautiful the facility was and how competent the staff was. It was a difficult time for us, but the First & Main staff helped us through this very difficult time.

A Classy Place that makes a lovely new Home for your loved one

My mom moved into First & Main – Auburn Hills about 11 months after breaking her hip, with numerous ‘stops’ along the way, including the hospital, rehab, a kind but smelly respite care facility and an awful Assisted Living facility. We FINALLY feel like she is in her new home. The culture of respect [Name removed] has sought for the F&M community is evident. It is a joy to walk into F&M - lovely smiles, kind greetings, sincere help, and restaurant-quality meals. But First & Main is also a delight to the eyes. It’s classy! We feel our mom is well cared for, whether one of our family is on site or not. Her apartment is lovely and the common areas, both inside and out, are beautiful as well.

"Home" is where the Heart Is

Back in 1966, Mom and Dad built the home they shared for 45 years until he was called home to Heaven in 2011. Mom continued to enjoy her independent living and the cozy familiarity of their home, until May of 2017 when she fell and broke her hip. That life-changing event began a series of visits in and out of hospitals, physical rehab facilities and several assisted living places. Mom was no longer able to live by herself, yet she wanted the independence of her own “place” where she could still make her own decisions. None of the 3 different assisted living facilities we tried came even close to fitting our standards for the “new home” we wanted for our Mom and all she wanted was to go to HER home, even though it would no longer meet her physical mobility needs. Then we heard about First & Main, and were hopeful from the first visit. Mom moved in this Spring, and she has found them to be attentive (but not invasive) and quite responsive to her needs and requests, while actually caring, something we have not found to be a commodity in this industry. It is bright, cheerful, convenient and beautifully laid out. And the food is excellent and the chef open to new menu options! Mom always found the meals at other places to be tasteless, cold and boring, and they treated adult residents like kids in a school lunch program. Mom also loves that she can attend Mass right there, and even go watch a movie in the theater. First & Main is now “Home” for Mom, and she is content. She has made new friends there, and her lifelong friends who visit are quite impressed with Mom’s elegant new place, as they have enjoyed the friendship and hospitality of the staff at luncheons. Thank you for making this stage of Mom’s journey one she accepts with a smile- and we accept with gratitude. Our hearts are with her every day at her new home, First & Main of Auburn Hills.

First rate!

This has been our moms third assisted living facility and is hands down the best! The staff is accommodating, friendly and caring. The surroundings are not just beautiful but welcoming. The food is excellent and, though most folks would rather be at home, when circumstances require it, you want your loved one to be in a place they can call their next home, this is that place. Mom has had several groups of friends visit recently and all have been welcomed and the gathering was celebrated not tolerated. Staff has been attentive and caring. All have been open to listening to new ideas and have worked hard to make mom feel supported. Keep up the good work, First and Main!
