Severely Neglected my Dad!

If you truly care about your loved one then PLEASE don't allow them to be a resident at the Ackery or any LeisureCare facility. I realize that it's a business and their goal is to make money but they're also dealing with human beings and they didn't treat our Dad as such. Once in memory care, he was left to sit in his chair for most of the day and all night and developed severe distortion in his neck. He now has trouble breathing, swallowing, and can't even look his loved ones in the eyes. We brought it to management's attentions several times and they assured us they would stay on top of it, provide us reports, and ensure that he was receiving physical therapy to fix the ailments that their neglect caused and we're still awaiting those reports. It was bad enough to move him and now he's in good hands at a fraction of the cost and in a facility that is easily putting the Ackerly to shame. Please do your homework and stay away from these places.

My review of The Ackerly at Timberland (Leisure Care, LLC/One Eighty)

I was able to do an in person to tour at this community and it was a good experience. I was able to see a couple of rooms and everything seemed clean no fowl smells.

I had a very pleasant tour and was impressed with the various activities and programs available in their community. This was the first assisted living center that had a social room with adult beverages available..mix drinks, beer & wine. Two thumbs up!

On your own mentality.

The facility is nice and clean. The activity’s are often and seem like fun. The food is okay. If you have to move a loved one to memory care, be prepared to do everything yourself, and have little communication on there end. The higher up seems to have a, “on your own “ mentality towards the family. Ask lots and lots of questions. Our family member wasn’t welcomed into the memory care community. Several balls were dropped in communication. When confronted the head leadership blamed the family for expected them to hold our hands through this process. The only communication and preparation we had was the sales team pushing us to memory care, and paper work and payment. There also seems to be a lack of communication between leadership and staff. I wished we could have expected better. Maybe they will fix these issues. I hope so.

Choose Independent Living for yourself

I have lived here months. The staff has remained as friendly and helpful as they originally appeared. I am in independent living so care services do not apply to me. There are many activities available, some have been organized by the staff and some organized by residents. The other residents have been open and friendly. I am enjoying my experience here at the Ackerly. I am happy with my choice.

The Ackerly is a very nice facility. We were looking for a home for our mom, that would allow a simple transfer from assisted living to memory care and they could definitely do that. They have a good memory care program and the layout of that unit is really nice. We did find it to be more expensive, and they don’t accept Medicaid if you spend down your funds. Lovely facility and caring staff.

100% happy with The Ackerly at Timberland.

The Ackerly has been a wonderful place for my brother to live! It is as described in their brochure and website. I live out of town so I'm not able to see my brother often. [name removed], the manager, has gone above and beyond to help with his daily mental and physical struggles. I really can't say enough about how helpful and professional she has been. The staff is also friendly and caring. The building is modern and spotless. I have experienced other facilities first-hand (with my parents), and I can honestly say I am 100% happy with The Ackerly.

Upscale retirement community. Lots of intellectual pursuits and services, modern, clean design & fantastic activities will keep seniors busy and occupied. I'd give it 4 stars but it's at the high end of the price range for the area. But if it's in your budget..... it's a great place

Good place - enjoyed our tour. It's a very nice facility, looks perfect except it's a bit further than we were hoping from our house. but it would totally work.

The elite of all the independent facilities we have toured. Living room is very, very small. Washer and dryer are a plus as are the two walk-in closets. The cost is out of our desired range.

The Ackerly is one of my top choices. I have a call into [name removed] with some questions. After I hear back from her, I will probably make a decision.

Brand new and beautiful

I toured this facility while looking for a place for my friend and I was very impressed. It’s a brand new community and it looked beautiful. The person who gave me the tour wasn’t as personable as other places by he was still knowledgeable. The reason why my friend doesn’t live here is that they do not accept residents with feeding tubes. I would recommend other families to tour this facility.

A very good-looking facility, but oriented vertically rather than horizontally which caused some concern for my dad. Otherwise the amenities looked great, the one bedroom apartments were spacious (for a facility of this type) and offered stove/oven and 3/4 fridge. Proximity to high quality grocery and nice restaurants (all within 200 yards of the front door) was a key selling point.

Good independent and assisted living community for non-dementia resident in Portland, Oregon

I found The Ackerly at Timberland in Portland, Oregon through, for my under 60 year old sister who was there for a short time (less than 2 months) recovering from surgery. It is a good fit for someone who needs assisted or independent living who does not have dementia. I do not live in Portland, and ideally the primary family contact would do so, as they are not great in communicating how the resident is doing. A bit pricey, but a nice new place. My sister liked it. I would have my sister return there if necessary.

Thank you for choosing The Ackerly as the location your sister could recovery from surgery in, and thank you for the feedback. I appreciate knowing how we can improve. Family members are just as much our customers as our residents are. And being long distance, I am sure it was important to you have regular updates and prompt feedback. I will work with the team at Ackerly to make sure that their communication impresses just as much as the services and building does. I hope that your sister has recovered well and that she won’t need us in the future but know that we are always here to help. With appreciation, Michael Juno | Operations Director

Happy to have them so close without compromising on quality!

We loved the modern atmosphere! Being a newer community we are very happy with how it's all come together. The vibe here was very welcoming and comforting for my loved ones! The dining experience is a work in progress but steadily improving while the Head Chef out on a medical leave. I would recommend taking a look to see if it meets the needs of your loved ones. I have aleady personally made some recommendations to friends!

Good Enough To Improve

My friend is doing okay and has improved a lot since being here. When he moved in he did not get a good immediate experience. He likes the staff and appreciates their help. Being on the independent side, he was hoping that it would cost him less. He likes the food option and it is part of the rent. I think it's a nice facility with nice staff.

A New Community

Based on the fact that it's new, there is not a lot of participation in the activities which inhibits my dad. He is in the assisted living side and they provide his medication. It seems they are a little slow in the process if there is a change. There is only one nurse so she may need some help to stay on top of it. The meals are served on time and housekeeping has been all good so far. this community is the best fit for my dad and I would recommend them to my family or friends.

Response from The Ackerly at Timberland

March 21, 2017

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about The Ackerly. We are happy to hear that we are the best fit for your dad and that you would recommend us to family or friends. You are correct in that we are a new community. We are growing each week and are now almost 60% full. Resident committees are forming and the overall life in the community continues to bloom. Our goal for the health and wellness of each resident is to offer and provide activities that are interesting, specific to level of care, and provide variation to the diverse population that live at The Ackerly. We hold quarterly care conferences, or more often as needed, to review the care plan and specific preferences of each resident living in assisted living or memory care. I would encourage you and your family to meet with myself and the Health and Wellness Manager to ensure activities that are offered are of interest to him. Respectfully, Caitlin VanDerSchaaf, General Manager.

A brand new community

I have a spacious apartment with a washer, dryer and full kitchen. They clean my apartment once a week. The staff are delightful and quick to respond to your needs. They offer restaurant style dining and the food is excellent. There is a mixed group of interesting residents and I would recommend this community.
