This has been hard to find a place that I feel fits with my life. I've been so many places in two weeks and I feel I just have been sold. I come to Sojourner and toured with [name removed] he was very respectful and upbeat. I had a lot of medical questions so he introduced me to the nurse. They made me feel at ease

October 6, 2022Thanks for the review and feedback, Amanda! We appreciate you taking the time to share with us, and we’re so glad to hear you had a great tour experience. Thank you again! – Team Enlivant
We toured with Sojourner Place and had a pretty good experience. There was just not quite as much going on activities wise as we were looking for. This probably would have been in our top 3 choices though.

This is an amazing community with great staff. The community was a too far from family.

This place is short staffed and the residents do not receive the standard of care that they need. Residents will sit in soiled diaper all day and do not have regular bathing or hair washing. It could be up to a month for you to get your hair washed if you are a resident. They have student interns from WMU do the bathing which do not seem to be doing the job. The laundry services are intermittent and the residents have soiled clothing on. Fresh fruit and vegetables are rarely served if ever. The place frequently smells of urine. There is a high turnover of staff and understaffing. If you need to take your loved one out for any reason, you will get a big surprise.

I would recommend this community. They have activities like exercise classes , bingo and also an outside car show that they had for the residents. The staff have been very positive with me as well as my loved one.

This was assisted living, but it felt completely different than other places we looked at. It felt more like a nursing home. Immediately when you walked in, you saw the eating area, and people in more declining states sitting right there. It’s hard to go from living in your own home to seeing that and be able to think it’s a place you would enjoy. The lady who took us on the tour was very informative and nice. We toured during Covid, but she got approval to take us to some of the rooms. They looked fine, but it was definitely a nursing home feel.

The staff overall are excellent, there's just not enough of them. They're very conscientious and will go out of their way to help you. They also help each other when they're short-staffed, and that you don't always see that. I know that they're trying very hard to get more staff. They haven't been able to bring people in for activities, so right now we're doing things like bingo, exercise classes, card games The pandemic took away our cook, but the staff is helping out where they can. The food is usually pretty good. Sometimes there are things I'm not able to eat with my medical condition, but my daughter brings me things she knows I can eat. Just like everybody else, the price is high, but I have a beautiful apartment, and I'm content.

The staff is very caring. If something happens, like virus updates or if she falls, they always notify me of anything non-routine. They treat my loved one very well. Seeing as how we can't really go in, it's hard to tell what's going on sometimes. From what I've seen, the place is really clean. I believe there are only about 25 residents, so it's a smaller, homey feel. You don't get lost in the shuffle here.

I don’t have anything good to say about this place! They have had bed bugs for awhile I tried to contact management never got a call back. Always short staffed! Staff sit at front desk playing on their phone and don’t even acknowledge residents when they come to desk! I called the front desk once because my grandma reported that she had pressed her button and no one had came and it had been about and hour it took three or four phone phone calls to get answer the staff that answered told me she didn’t have time for this shit and and hung up on me, I tried to call back but the phone just kept getting picked up and hung up. We are looking into another facility currently my grandma could have been on the floor and nobody cared!!

I was very impressed with [name removed] the director at Sojourner Place. He was very friendly and made me feel more at ease. The facility is very nice and offers so much for its residents. Not being able to visit Sojourner Place due to the coronavirus [name removed] took me on a visit via his iPad. I was very impressed.

This place is outstanding, I just dont feel it is where mom would be happy. After visiting, I really think she is capable of independent living. [Name removed] gave a wonderful presentation and offered assistance to me even if we did not choose to place mom there.

The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and had a sixth sense of what was important to us. The apartments were too small for the independent life we envision. That’s more help than we need or want at this point. Not a fit for now.

When my family member first got to Sojourner Place, everything was good. Slowly, over time, the care level went down hill, and that's putting it mildly. From forgetting to give the residents their medication, to making the residents wait upwards of 2 HOURS at night to get any kind of help when they hit their call button. I believe this is primarily due to their "point system" and the fact that they are only allowed 2 aids there overnight to 35+ residents. I was SO happy to get my parent out of that facility. Please research the care level, and the amount of people they have caring for folks overnight.

Wonderful choice, a Wonderful Place This is a very tough time in our lives, for my Father at 94 to have to leave his home and move into assisted living. For me, it was having to find and make the choices for him, and care, cost, amenities, were all considerations. If you read past reviews about sojourner Place that were not flattering, please continue reading...the rest of the story. After three weeks of rehab with the wonderful staff at Medilodge (formerly Tendercare in Portage), I needed to find a place for my father to receive the same level of care longer term. A place for Mom is a good place to start, and [Removed] assisted me in locating options. After several visits and discussions, Sojourner in Kalamazoo was a clear choice. It is a wonderful facility, clean, smells good, and the staff has been more than helpful, and clear in explaining what they will do for Dad. If you are at the same stage in life, or your parent is, I can highly recommend Sojourner Place. [Removed]

I did not use this company for very long but when I did things seem to be okay. The staff where polite and I they did a good job with communicating with our family. We just kept running into complications with the nurses quitting and schedule conflict so we ended up canceling our services.

My mom is settling in nicely at Sojourner Place. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting and they welcome family members when we come to visit. The staff is very friendly and attentive to her care needs. My mom says the food is good and she likes most of the meals that they serve. They do offer activities and the staff encourages the residents to participate in them, mom has tried out a few. The landscaping is well-kept and there are bird-feeders for the residents to enjoy birds and the outdoors. I would highly recommend this community to others.
