This facility is good, but my main concern is the continued outside agency help. I know that's an issue everywhere, but I still don't care for it. It's hard to build rapport when you don't have the same consistent staff. And it's hard for the staff, also. They aren't able to get to know the residents and their personal needs. Some of the caregivers are great and others not so much. The move in process could not have been better, it went very smooth. Housekeeping is ok, but the facility is all carpet and that makes it harder. My loved one's room is very clean. The common areas are clean, but have a urine smell due to being carpet and accidents happening. I've spoken to the director about it as well. Communication with the family is ok. I will say, they can truly handle Alzheimer's patients here. To me, there's a huge difference between Memory Care and Alzheimer's care. It's hard to find a good fit for Alzheimer's, but they do a great job here. For that type of care, I would recommend them to family and friends.... Read more

Response from River Oaks
November 7, 2022Glenda, thank you for your review. We understand your concerns and our entire team is dedicated to finding talented and caring health care professionals. While these are challenging times, we will continue to find these special people to work at River Oaks.
My father was not there long. Arrived in May and passed away end of July. He did not thrive there but I don't believe his lack if thriving or passing was because of the place. The facilities were going through significant turnover during the short time there. A lot of this had to do with the global impacts of Covid on all healthcare facilities. However I think there may have also been some changeover at the corporate level that was impacting resources at the facility. Due to the turnover, a care conference with the family that usually happens after the resident has settled in didn't happen even though requested a couple of times. There were multiple times my father had accidents and was not changed timely which indicated to us his need for help finding a restroom was not being met. His bathroom was also not always cleaned timely. These were items we planned to bring up at the care conference for resolution but it did not occur. Based on the responsiveness of the staff when things were addressed w them, we felt that in time and the settling down of turnover, the issues we observed would have been resolved. The staff was trying hard to maintain a good experience for residents and families, so we believed the issues to circumstantial, resolvable and not an indicator of a systemic problem. Unfortunately, we were unable to ascertain whether our beliefs were accurate or if there was a systemic problem that we would have realized with more time

What stuck out most to be about River Oaks was the compassion of all of the people, the caregivers, administration, front desk, etc. Everyone was so caring and compassionate. Out of all the many places that we looked at, it was certainly the best.

We had a very good tour at River Oaks. The facility looked very nice and was very similar to the place we chose in a lot of ways. It just seemed like they had ever so slightly fewer activities.
River Oaks is dedicated to memory care residents. I would highly recommend a memory care community for memory care residents. The staff seem to like their job, they are patient, kind and friendly with the residents and families. The staff are receptive and respond quickly to any questions or concerns that are brought up by the family. The room, housekeeping, changing of linens, and laundry are a few items included in the monthly fee. The staff are able to assist with toileting, bathing, and hygiene for my friend. It did take a couple months for my friend to acclimate to the community.

We went with River Oaks because they were one of the few places that said they would be able to handle my dad and his care. They were very receptive to any issues he was having and seemed more than willing to go the extra mile to make things work. The staff really stick out to us, they have been very responsive. I would recommend River Oaks to others who are looking.

River Oaks is a great place to go. The friendliness of everyone stands out to me. The room was good, clean, and a semi private room for my loved one; however, they were by themselves. The staff were really good at keeping the family updated.

They are very friendly and they communicate well with the families. They have been doing their best during Covid -19. It is really hard on dementia patients. We have been very pleased with our experience. Overall I am happy. I would recommend River Oaks.

Lovely facility and decor, very homey. Patients interacting with staff. Rooms have only a bed and night stand, no cable or WiFi. They have motion detectors in rooms which alert staff to patient activity, but also set off audible alarms. Didn’t see a menu. Activities for patients seem to be an important part of program. Staff/patient ratio seemed good.

The care here is literally deplorable. Residents are leaving in droves as they should. Unfortunately we didn’t get out soon enough. The substandard care will not provide your loved one with the respect and dignity they deserve.

After my father was kicked out of a nearby memory care unit, we chose River Oaks because of its excellent reputation for handling "difficult" Alzheimer's patients. We could not be more pleased! Not only are they awesome with my dad, we have been amazed by the loving and joyful way the entire staff treats the residents and their families. We would have no hesitation in recommending River Oaks to anyone seeking care for their loved one.

This is a nice looking community. The people I met were friendly. This is a larger community and we did not think this would work for our loved one.

Our mom is doing really well here, she is taking part in the activities and we hope will get to start going on the field trips soon. The community is beautiful inside and out, there is a nice courtyard where the residents can gather with family and friends, mom even likes the dining room and menu. the staff are friendly and attentive and care about their residents.

If you're looking for a perfect facility, there isn't one but this comes very close. Have had experiences with a number of care facilities in the Dayton area and this is by far the best. River Oaks is brand new, opened in the fall of 2016. Beautiful and secure this facility specializes in those with dementia and Alzheimer's. The staff is wonderful and the care is the best we have seen. Pleasant surroundings, and a wonderful secure courtyard for the residents to enjoy when weather permits. Highly recommended!

This is a brand new community and things are going well. We are on a first name basis with the staff and we have good communication. The food is good and they offer daily activities. Mom was able to bring her own belongings and has her own room. They specialize in Alzheimer's care and this was the best fit for us. I would recommend this community.
