my experience

The communication was non-existeant and I was only able to speak to one person for the entire 3 weeks my loved one was there. I would not recommend this community to others based on our experience.

I would recommend

All of the staff members have been great and the care they provide is great as well. We did have have to recently call hospice in so there is some confusion between what hospice should be doing and what the aids should be doing. So there could just be a little more clarification for the aids. The menu looks great, but our loved one is on a pureed diet. The barriers have been lifted so the activities are coming back, and the volunteers are coming back. There is arts and crafts in the memory care, and our loved one especially likes it when they bake cupcakes because they get to decorate and eat them.

very few of the staff is friendly, they hope out in the break room all day. everything is not my job when asked Keri the Admission Director is doing the best with rooms that are no way in the same shape the pictures show on the web site, they are 100% worse, if you tour ask to see rooms at random as they all are need of major repair! they Charge for every little thing, because they have no staff they now charge $3.00 a meal to be delivered to the room

I Would Recommend

I would tell others that my loved one fell and it cause some additional medical complications. The communication was decent between the family and the staff. I had a prior family member in this community and it was great for them.

We appreciate your review of our community. We are sorry that your loved one had that experience. As you know, we try to decrease the risk of falling for all of our residents and there is no way to completely take the risk away. We are glad to hear that the communication was good between family and staff and that you had a great experience with another family member living in the community. We are very grateful for families who give us the honor of taking care of their loved ones and we thank you for that.

I would tell others to look elsewhere. Initially they were very welcoming and kind. The community changed their attitude towards my loved one and my family, after my loved one moved in. My loved one didn't want to return after going to the hospital. I think the administrator needs to be changed. It did seem to be a newly remodeled community.

Would not recommend this Independence Court

At first when you walk inside the community it was extremely bright, it had a very welcoming feeling to it, but once you stepped in to the rooms they were fifthly dirty, the residents did not get treated right. The care services were non existence. Would not attend to the residents when they fell. It did not seem like the staff cared about the residents at all, or even care about their own jobs.

Look elsewhere

Independence Court does not come close to providing it's advertised or verbal promised care. Staff is poorly trained, poorly managed and has a high turnover. Management avoids rather than addresses issues. We only lasted 6 weeks but saw issues from Day 1.

if you want peace of mind this is not the place to be

Had 2 siblings there who we removed to a better place. Don't choose the book by its cover, the physical look on the outside and inside is good and the smiles and friendly faces will change once inside. If our family didn't visit often then nothing would get done, had to stay on top of everyone MEDS MIXED UP! room not dusted, beds not changed, clothes not changed, hair a mess, personal hygiene not kept up. Met with administration often still nothing was changed, they had a deaf ear to a lot of issues not only with our situation but with other families, lack of communication. Some of the staff were fantastic, kitchen, activities, maintenance staff and receptionist were great! The medical staff were not always alert as to issues, and communicating from one shift to the other and over looked signs of distress in their residents. Through my observation there I feel as if they don't see the residents (especially Administration) they can't even look into their eyes to really see them. (sad). It's just a job. I could go on. If you want peace of mind this isn't the place for you or your loved ones.

Good and Bad!

I have had a lot of issues with their care. My mother says no to everything so that may explain why she doesn't get all the care that I am paying for. She likes it there though, and everyone is very friendly. The food is always good too!

Good and Bad!

My mother has been there a few months, everyone there is nice to her and the food is good, but I am not happy about the lack of communication, If you have to call and leave a message they don't call you back, and I am not always informed of any changes in her condition. I am disabled and don't drive, so I am not in there as much as I would like to be. She doesn't receive the care that I am paying for (she is at the most expensive level) but that could be that she refuses a lot of things. I think the employes should be used to that though and be able to urge her to dress (which she needs assistance with) , shower, go to meals at the dining room etc. They are like a lot of other homes in that there are not enough aides on duty and can't take the time to spend with the patients to give them a little extra care or encouragement. My cousin had to go in and dust her room, it was so bad. But again my mother could have refused to have someone clean it. They don't have regular meetings with the family like most homes do, only if the family requests it! All in all I expected a much better experience for the money I am paying!
