Garnet place welcomed my dad and treated him with care and kindness making him feel welcome and comfortable.

I would say the nursing care was just average.

We toured with Garnet Place and had a very good tour experience. It was a very nice facility, but it was on the smaller side and did not seem to have enough of the amenities that we were really looking for for my loved one.

For others, don't be in a hurry in their search. Visit more than once. Try to talk to residents and health care workers if possible. Also find the agency that oversees/regulates these facilities and try to discern any complaints filed.

Highly recommended
From my perspective, they get 5 stars. The staff are very helpful and friendly and kind. He raves about the food that he gets, they are chef prepared meals for the most part. Overall we have been pleased with the experience and would highly recommend Garnet Place to others looking.

Do your homework - beware.
We had a brief experience with Garnet Place. The initial contact was good. But our family member only ended up staying there for one day. On that first day, she was somehow able to wander off unnoticed, and she was later found in the parking lot. So they told us they would not be able to take care of her. And then they did not refund us any money that had been paid upfront. They were friendly going in, but not going out when they were done with us.

A great place
We did multiple visits to other facilities; when we first walked in it was just the atmosphere, the layout, their friendliness and how they treat their people is just awesome. They're just really good with her. It's a great place and the location was perfect for us as well.

Fantastic comfortable facility
I never have to worry about his safety, they are very on top of things. He loves the food that is served, the kitchen staff prepares everything on site. We went for Christmas lunch and it was very good. They do have transportation available but they have not been able to find a driver so we have had to take him to his appointments. His room is on the smaller side. It is a very casual, home like atmosphere because it is a smaller facility. We like that because he is not overwhelmed and it is all on one floor. I would recommend to others looking.

Our Tour Experience
What an amazing place! Their staff, right on up to the owner/director, dedicates themselves to the care of the people. For instance, they will all work on the floor, no matter their station, which shocked me. They make an effort to learn your name right away. The do lots of fun things, even on an individual level. So if one particular resident wanted to plant something, they would go out and get a plant and help him plant it in his room or in the courtyard. Every other week their bus takes everyone on a ride through town. They’re fabulous. I would go there myself when my time comes!

Meeting went very nicely. Lovely facility but didn't get to see activity because they were shut-down/in-rooms due to Covid positive for one of their team members. This facility does not offer Memory care, where we believe Mom will need it in the near future. Will not be able to consider this facility.

A great a place for mom
The group of people who work there are very caring. They really care about older people. They have good follow up and really do a good job. I chose this community because it was close to where I live, the pricing was right, and they were willing to accept a short stay . The food was good, It was nutritious and nicely presented. It is a good selection for a small friendly community.

We are very pleased with my mother’s move to Garnet Place. Her room is lovely. The staff is very friendly and quick to attend to my mother’s needs. Their food service could improve along the variety lines. Also they need to serve more fresh fruit and vegetables during the meals. The programs are interesting and the special events are family friendly. Overall, my mother is happy living at Garnet Place.

need to listen to prospective residents
When my sister and I first took my dad to Garnet, one of the things we told them is dad required social interaction. he likes to talk. He needs folks to talk to. They told us no problem, in that department. A couple days before my dad moved there I walked through the lobby and saw several residents sitting there. They seemed to be parked there. No interaction. I felt alarm bells going off in my head. If these were the folks my dad had to talk to, we had a problem. I called Garnet with my concern, and once again was told it was no problem. There were folks for my dad. Once we moved him in, it became pretty clear almost immediately that my dad was feeling depressed because he had no one to gab with. He said people t the dinner tables did not talk. Many could not hear. Some refused to answer his, hi, how are you? questions. A month after moving in, I moved him out to an independent living environment where folks are chatting and socializing all over the place. It was a very expensive miss-step for us. I wish Garnet had really listened when we first went there. They did not.

Welcoming place with helpful staff.
The staff is extremely friendly to residents and visitors and the staff has been consistently patient with my mom as she struggles to adapt. Before she moved in they had got the apartment into great shape. There was new carpet, paint, and it was clean. Also, all the common areas are maintained nicely. I identified a maintenance need, and the maintenance man was there within a few days (not immediately because I'd stated it did not need immediate attention) and noted that he had already identified the problem and had the necessary part on order. My mom seems to enjoy the food (she isn't complaining, which she would if she didn't like it) and I ate in the dining room for several meals and I found the food tasty but I know I'd gain weight if I ate there routinely. I noted that the staff all work at meals to ensure that new residents are not left out, so when they arrive at the dining area a staff person greets them by name and will take them to a table with a vacant seat and introduce to the people there, facilitating getting to know people. I think they steer the new person away from less friendly folks. They have activities for the residents, and the activity manager [Removed] is particularly nice. I have noted an activity that we'd been told about that isn't actually offered, which is group walks on the greenbelt that is a couple of blocks away. Perhaps I misunderstood what I was told, and this was instead an ad activity organized by some of the residents (and not happening anymore). One thing I particularly like is they allow residents to place some personal item(s) on the door or adjacent hallway wall, or item near the door. For someone like my mom, who suffers from memory loss, this is a great aid to being able to find her way around Garnet Place on her own and not need assistance to get to and from the dining or activity room areas. They also allow things to be hung from walls and ceiling in the rooms so that you can really personalize it, no restrictions noted on hanging things. I can say the experience thus far is extremely positive, and I have hopes that my mom will settle in well.

More of an independent facility
When I toured, it was a really nice community and our tour guide was terrific. The rooms are clean and looks like a nice facility to stay in. If my Mother was more independent it would have been great for her. They just didn’t seem to have the facilities or ability to take care of a person in a wheelchair. If you’re using a walker, it would not be a big deal.

A Place for Mom has scored Avista Garden City 7.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
