  • [Name removed] is terrible!

If you love your parent, AVOID BROOKDALE W MELBOURNE AT ALL COSTS!!! Other than occasional musicians, “Activities” is a joke ever since [name removed] left in 2016. Staff are overworked and bitter. The cooks double as caregivers because they’re always short staffed. The Exec Director is downright mean, and staff are afraid of her. Call buttons are pointless because it takes so long for them to respond. Residents are not happy with food, activities, response times, overall cleanliness. Very depressing environment.

    1. We never received the Exhibit Z(service pricing) when we toured. We were very forthcoming my grandmother is on a fixed income so anything much more than $3500 would not be feasible for her. One week in the addition of 2 services makes it impossible for her to stay there. 2. My grandmother arrived Wednesday the 4th and was not bathed for a week despite paying for the service and her room was not cleaned despite that being included. 3. After explaining my gmaws introverted personality, we were assured, a welcoming committee would greet her, show her the facilities and invite her to meals and activities. That never happened. The first day she was there, she had to go to 3 tables to find a place to sit. Then not knowing where the closest restrooms were, she had an accident on the way back to her room despite asking for help in the hall. It was my mom who cleaned her up and asked for a welcome packed and a list of activities. She also missed dinner her second day because she was unsure of timing and where to go and she likely would have missed lunch today had I not called and asked them to take her. 4. My gmaw was released from rehab with a catheter. This is new for her and us as well. Up until the stroke she lived independently and had complete control of her bowels. The nurse Amanda was rude when showing my mom and grandmother how to empty the bag and made it very clear, that was not in her job description. 5. My gmaw fell out of bed her 4th night there. BD claims the night staff checks on the residents every 2-4 hours but there is no log to verify when their last check occurred. She rang her call bell but it was never answered. She also said she managed to knock on her neighbors wall but that too, went unanswered. She was not found until 7:30 AM and my aunt not made ware until 9:30 AM. My gmaw has been there less than a week and the treatment she has received has been sub par at best and is bordering on neglect. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
