Assisted living communities administer oversight, social interaction, and personal care to people who are about 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities frequently provide care supervision, help with appointments and transit, and outings for leisurely activity. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer hospice, skilled nursing care, or respite. Oregon has a number of stipulations related to this kind of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight licenses this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as risk indicator assessment, mental health evaluation, ADLs test, and physical health exam. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include 24-hour emergency care service, maximize physical functioning, health services, and transportation services. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. Staff members obtain education in a variety of subjects. These include: infection control, fire safety, abuse and reporting requirements, and residents’ rights. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents.
