Assisted living communities administer social opportunities, personal care, and oversight to persons who are around 65 years old. Services provided often involve support with ADLs. Residents may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer continuing care, hospice, or skilled nursing care. Ohio has specific statutes associated with this type of community. Ohio Department of Health certifies this community type. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 17. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 8 residents and one toilet for every 8 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminders, assistance opening and taking medication, and verifying labels. Staff members receive education in a number of fields. These include: residents rights, securing emergency assistance, community procedures, and job responsibilities. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervision, intermittent nursing services, medication administration, and activities. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Assisted Living Program and the 1915(b)(c) Managed Care Demonstration Waiver called MyCare. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as health history, psychological history, medical diagnoses, and psychical history.
