Assisted living communities provide healthcare, social events, and oversight to individuals around 65 years of age or older. The services offered often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide skilled nursing, respite, or continuing care. The monthly median cost for a private room is around $9,292 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $8,373 . Michigan has specific standards associated with this kind of community. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervised personal care, reminding resident of important activities to be carried out, medication management, and guidance. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional, Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, and three daily meals and snacks must be provided.
