Assisted living communities provide care, social events, and supervision to individuals around 65 years old. The types of service provided often involve support with the activities of daily life. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include three daily meals and snacks must be provided, Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council, and communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan identifies the individual’s need for activities, The home must complete a service plan in cooperation with each resident and/or their representative, service plan takes into account the preferences and competency of the resident, and service plan identifies the individual’s need for services. Staff members obtain training in a number of areas. These include: residents rights and responsibilities, safety and fire prevention, reporting requirements and documentation, and first-aid. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan.
