Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment style housing and social events as well as individualized assistance. Services offered often involve aid with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide dementia care, hospice, or continuing care. These include: The licensee must attend any training sessions that the Department determines are necessary to meet licensing standards and the administrator must attend any training sessions mandated by the department. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include checking the dosage, residents must be assessed for their need for assistance, and medication administration. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as residents need to be assessed within 30 calendar days of admission and residents need to be reassessed at least every 6 months thereafter. Public assistance is available through Medicaid MaineCare State Plan and the MaineCare 1915(c) Elderly Waiver program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include a registered dietician must approve menus annually, the maintenance of a medication record for each resident, at least one nutritious meal a day must be provided, and therapeutic diets are considered treatments and must be ordered in writing, by a duly authorized licensed practitioner.
