Assisted living communities provide care, social opportunities, and supervision to persons around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities frequently offer aid with the activities of daily life, aid with transportation and appointments, and chances for leisurely activity. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide skilled nursing care, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, reading the medication label to residents, and medication administration. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include housekeeping, security, laundry, and non-medical services. Staff members receive training in a variety of areas. These areas include internal policies, abuse, neglect prevention, and privacy. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive assessment, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, and assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals.
