Assisted living communities administer supervision, social opportunities, and healthcare to persons around 65 years old. The types of service provided often involve support with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include laundry, medication administration, supervision of self-administered medications, and non-medical services. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition.
