A community with a view for mom

I am very happy with the care that my mom is receiving here with the great staff. This community is very clean and at this time it is going thru at this time. The food is really good and a nice variety for her. She is offered activities, but she is not settled in yet. I would recommend this community. This community is offering my mom a view of the ocean.

Recent resident discoveries.

I have been a resident for almost six months and am very happy Westminster is now my home. The residents are very friendly, the grounds are lovely, the view from my patio and front porch are perfect! There are many activities, and new residents are really encouraged to join--and I have. Stores are convenient, distance to my previous home is short, so I continue in activities there. The Gold Line will be here shortly--so trips to "Phillip's", Union Station, Pasadena, etc. are easy and fun! The Library is great, the office staff very informative --and patient--! I find new things and people each day to enjoy. The dining room,--food AND staff are amazing. I feel that Westminster was the right move for me---and my "Kids" agree.

This is the place to be!

I have toured the premises as a possible location for my mother and was very impressed with all aspects. It's a beautiful, quiet setting yet not far from shopping areas. My mother ended up choosing a facility in Whittier because it was closer to her friends, but believe me, it opened my eyes about my future and what a great place this would be to live in. I know people who live there now, some who are still working, and they love it. When my wife and I are ready to sell our home, Westminster Gardens is where we're heading.

It is a blessing to live here.

My husband and I have lived at Westminster Gardens for just over a year. It has exceeded our expectations in every regard. The campus is a former estate and fruit orchard close to the mountains, and has a small park for walking. The residents are friendly and interesting people, with a healthy sense of community. The staff are professionally competent and cheerful. There is a relaxed, small-town atmosphere here. The dining room welcomes all residents, so friendships can continue conveniently even when someone needs to advance in their level of care. The range of activities is broad and resident-driven. There is a tennis court and swimming pool, and shuffleboard in the park. There are fine concerts, excursions, and volunteer opportunities. The surrounding community interacts with the Gardens for special events. Assisted living and memory care facilities are well run. We like the food!

Happy Resident

I am a very happy occupant of one of the upgraded apartments. Moving to the Hillside Manor has given my life a real boost and new direction. The food is so outstanding I have to be really careful not to over eat. Great thing: I don't have to cook it or do the dishes! The residents made me feel so welcome from day one. The staff care about us as though we are family. Have I mentioned the wine and cheese gatherings? Tidbits served are so good. They have so many varied activities I just can't find time to do them all. So I just sit in my chair and mold. - NOT! ! There are lots of different kinds and levels of group exercise classes to keep one's joints moving and limber. In just over a month we will have new exercise area 3 or 4 times larger than the previous one. Look hard enough and you'll find an outdoor swim pool (salt water).

Delicious meals and great exercise classes

I now enjoy the freedom of independent living without the worried of home ownership. Moving to Hillside has given me more time for creative activities and community involvement. But I also appreciate the security of knowing good care will be available when I need it. I love having delicious meals ready every day without my planning, shopping and cooking. I can cook and bake only when the spirit moves me. Starting every day in exercise classes with skilled instructors who make it fun is wonderful.

My Mom's move to Regents

My Mom enjoys it. She just moved in, at the end of September, and has become a part of a friendly community. The apartment is roomy and well designed. The staff customized her space just for my Mom. Even without upgrades, the move in was very smooth for her. Mom enjoys the activities, her warm welcome and the food is great too - and very healthy. The community is not too big and not claustrophobic either. The location is gorgeous and there are beautiful parks nearby. She finds her fellow residents warm, intelligent and engaging - and happy. My Mom feels safe and secure and already has different small "jobs" (like working a few hours in the library) in the community, which she enjoys. Only criticism would be: the lack of guest parking at times, and they won't allow dogs in the apartments. If that changed, then it would be perfection. We recommend Regents Point and feel we made the right decision.

Best decision I ever made

Today is my 2nd anniversary of living here at Hillside. It's been wonderful, best decision I ever made. It is so friendly here, the food is great. I live on the balcony at the Manor so I have all kinds of scenery changes with the fall leaves right now. the sun sets are beautiful all through the year. Lunches and dinners are such a fun special time no matter if its a special event or just everyday. There are so many special trips and plays in McMinnville or Portland, dinner trips in and around town and the city are great. Always a cup of coffee at the fireplace and someone to visit with if you get lonely.

Westminster Gardens is an answer to prayer

Westminster Gardens is more like an oasis than a retirement community. The staff is fabulous and the choice of residential units is broad. Everything is ground level so there are no stairs or elevators to deal with. The grounds are gorgeous and you can see the mountains in the background. The residents are friendly and active and there are quite a few weekly activities. I am so thankful I found Westminster Gardens for my father. He did not want to move to assisted living until he took the tour at Westminster Gardens - now he is settled and happy.

they do a good job

They maintain the grounds at Hillside Retirement Community really good. The staff allow the residents to be as involved or not involved as they would like. I will say it has become a very popular place and it seems like it has become hard for the staff to keep up with repairs. They do a good job it just takes a while. I do wish they could tailor some of their meals to certain dietary needs.

An outstanding retirement community!

My wife and I moved to Valle Verde last year. We'd looked at seven or eight communities from Santa Clara County to Ventura County. After all the research, we decided Valle Verde was the best fit for us. Though we had high expectations, the reality has been even better! Every unit is a garden cottage - either stand-alone or multi-unit (duplex, triplex) - all single story and with mature landscaping. The entire community has 65 acres, with mostly flat walking paths throughout. The facilities are superb - pool, exercise room, theater, multiple conference rooms, even "bed and breakfast" rooms for overnight guests! The best part is the other residents. They are uniformly friendly and welcoming, and are active, interesting, and enjoyable. The meals are open-seating, so it's easy to meet new friends. Most are from the Santa Barbara area, but a number have chosen to come here from out of state. University professors and medical doctors seem to be in the majority. One never lacks for activities at Valle Verde. There are movies several times a week on campus, guest lectures, interest clubs, plus transportation to the many cultural activities in Santa Barbara. The food is very good. It's very flexible - one gets "points" each month which are sufficient for three meals a day. If you don't use all your points, you can bring guests, have a private dinner party, or roll part of the points over to the next month. There are two dining venues, the main dining room and a Bistro Grill. Each has a choice of the regular menu (three buffet entree choices, salad bar, dessert) plus wine, or a "specials" menu cooked to order. This summer, the main dining room is being remodeled, so we are using some of the other meeting rooms, poolside, and patios to handle the dining space while we await the new dining room this fall. The staff is, in a word, outstanding. The ones you deal with on a daily basis (such as dining servers, maintenance people, etc.) have been selected with care - they are friendly, very capable, remember your name, and are a pleasure to deal with. The management staff is equally outstanding, knowledgeable and responsive. One indicator of it being a good place to work is the large number of the staff who have been here for many years. Care services are very good. Valle Verde has a reputation in Santa Barbara as a medical facility of choice - in fact, we have people in the medical facility who have come from other retirement communities. The costs cover everything. There is an "entrance fee" and a monthly fee. The amount depends on the number of people and the cottage you choose (based on square feet!). For this, you get all meals, all utilities (except phone, TV and internet), and all maintenance. No more worrying about roof repairs, termites, replacing light bulbs, gardeners, trash collection, repainting, appliance repairs or replacements, property tax, home insurance, gophers, or any of that. It's really liberating! If you use more intensive medical care (assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing), the monthly fees increase. One final comment - Valle Verde is very pet-friendly! If you take the time to look at Valle Verde, you'll find as we did that it really is an outstanding community!

Our absolute favorite out of 13 we visited on our trip; as close to perfect as I could hope. The history of the company and its non-profit business model visibly benefit the residents. It was not the most luxurious community we saw - still very impressive - but I think it's the best for the money. The location is quiet but not secluded; easy access to town with low traffic. The entry fee model is a caveat - different from any other community - but the end-of-life assistance plan is extremely attractive for peace of mind, especially with one parent already headed towards advanced dementia. The $1500 wait list fee is guaranteed refundable in writing, so we are jumping on board.
