Nursing Homes

A nursing home community offers room and board to two or more seniors who have no family ties to the administrator. This type of complex provides its inhabitants with care by registered nurses. These nurses provide maintenance, personal care and other health related services for seniors who cannot care for themselves because of their aging.

Nursing homes can be a helpful and easy care option for persons 65 years or older, however nursing homes will accept individuals 55 and older infrequently heard of in senior care regarding alternate care types. Often times individuals might choose to live in a nursing home over another type of community due to a mental or physical disability that makes it difficult for them to accomplish their standard of living. Types of amenities and services provided at nursing homes might include injections, 24-hour emergency care, wound care for pressure sores or a surgical wound, and adult day health care (which offers nursing and therapy) . Some services come at an extra cost which can include special care services not included in the community's Medicaid payment, personal comfort items, and flowers and plants. A significant amount of inhabitants tend to be single women with less social support, and about fifty percent of nursing home residents are over the age of 85. Nursing homes are required to provide specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), emergency dental services, medically-related social services, and pharmaceutical services to residents.
