Independent Living

Independent Living Communities offer seniors a convenient balance between living an independent lifestyle and not having to worry about housekeeping. Basic chores such as meal planning and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and leisure activities is maintained, allowing residents the autonomy to use their time as they choose, free from daily responsibilities. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy an opportunity to live among peers, surrounded by others of similar ages and interests. Typically consisting of a private living area and a full kitchen, these communities offer residences with many of the amenities of apartment life but with none of the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and more time can be spent with them with the basic maintenance of daily tasks out of the way. While policies vary between locations, a number of residences allow pets as well. Nursing and health care services can always be arranged for with private care providers if desired. There are an assortment of expenditures and benefits to consider when choosing an independent living community. It is important to figure out if these services are covered in the care plan: cable TV, private phone, move-in fee, housekeeping, initial assessment fee, parking, meals, and wellness program. The benefits and amenities that pertain to independent living include golf course, restaurant-style dining hall, transportation, concierge services, private rental hall, game/TV room, fitness center & swimming pool, and community activities.
