Home care, or in-home care, is a service which offers compassion and help to seniors who need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and wish to remain in their homes. Levels of care vary according to need, and can include companionship, meal prep, cleaning, transportation, and help with ADLs like bathing and dressing. Home care aides are trained to understand the nuances of senior care but generally aren’t licensed to provide medical services.
The median monthly cost of in-home care is about $4,671 in Sarasota, and $4,195 in the state of Florida, according to Genworth.

A beach town on Florida’s west coast, just a short distance south of Tampa, Sarasota is a small city with a varied history. With an economy based mostly in tourism, Sarasota also has also been known as a destination with a penchant for the arts. The region is home to many performing arts theaters and visual arts galleries, and several well-known musicians and performers have settled in the area. Ages of Sarasota residents tend to range pretty evenly above 24 years old. While the city proper tends to be slightly more youthful and politically liberal, the county at large tends conservative and has voted Republican in every presidential election since 1944.

Miscellaneous
Sarasota is considered friendly to members of the LGBTQ+ community. This means that members of the community are accepted by the general public and can actively participate in public life without fear of bigotry.
On the outside, Sarasota might present itself as a beach town, but beneath the surface is a varied cultural landscape. In the early part of the 20th century, the city was home to many performing arts venues and hosted stage performances of numerous celebrities. Art collector Mable Burton Ringling, along with her husband, circus magnate John Ringling, established their namesake art museum in Sarasota in 1927. The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is a Sarasota landmark that still operates today, and has been deemed the official state art museum of Florida. The museum’s collection consists of over 10,000 works in all media, spanning from the 16th century to modern eras and representing artists from across the globe. The art museum’s campus also consists of a separate museum dedicated to the circus, as well as Ca’ d’Zan, the restored Ringlings’ mansion originally built in 1926.
The city is also home to the Sarasota Orchestra, founded in 1949, and still in regular operation today. Every year in June, the orchestra hosts the three-week-long Sarasota Music Festival, an exhibition of chamber music which draws internationally-acclaimed performers and musicians.
Aside from its cultural offerings, Sarasota’s reputation as a beach town definitely holds water. The city’s coast along the Gulf of Mexico is lined by six islands, each with pristine beaches. Longboat Key, the longest of Sarasota’s island beaches, is a calmer beach with a relaxing atmosphere and tends to be less crowded than other options. Siesta Key is another island which consists of multiple beaches. Its namesake beach is often regarded as one of the best beaches in the world. In Venice, a short trip south of the city, one can find Caspersen Beach. A great option if you don’t feel like trekking to an island, Caspersen Beach features hiking trails and boardwalks, and the nearby Brohard Paw Park — the only dog-friendly beach in Sarasota County.
Transportation
Sarasota features a helpful public bus system operated by Sarasota County Area Transit, or SCAT. These buses feature routes which cover a wide range of the city and run daily from roughly 5:30 am to 10:30pm. SCAT also runs the Siesta Key Breeze Trolley — a free, open-air trolley that runs along the beaches of Siesta Key and is in operation 365 days a year. Sarasota is not the most convenient city to rely on walking for accomplishing most daily tasks, but the pleasant Florida weather permits outdoor strolls to be a frequent possibility.
