San Buenaventura — more commonly known as Ventura — is a popular beach town just north of Los Angeles and is famous for its sunshine and waves. Both locals and tourists alike enjoy Ventura’s proximity to the ocean and world-class beaches, the largest of which is San Buenaventura State Beach which features the iconic Ventura Pier. This popular filming location juts out 1,600 feet into the Pacific Ocean and offers gorgeous views of the sunset over the nearby Channel Islands. Other popular beaches in the city include Oxnard State Beach and Park, Mandalay State Beach, and Surfers Point at Seaside Park.

Ventura has a long and storied history best experienced at one of the city’s excellent museums and historical landmarks. The city was originally founded in 1782 following the completion of the Mission San Buenaventura by the Spanish. The mission was the last of its kind built by the Fransicans in what was then called Alta California. Not only is the mission still a functioning church, but it also serves as a museum that traces the history of Spanish Catholicism in the area. Transportation

The primary provider of public transportation in Ventura is Gold Coast Transit, which operates fixed bus routes throughout the city and the surrounding Ventura County. They also offer ADA compliant paratransit which is available seven days a week. Transportation between cities is provided by VCTC Intercity which offers routes to Santa Barbara and Warner Center. Amtrak also provides rail service to Ventura and can be accessed at the Seaside Park train platform on Harbor Boulevard.
