Most of the staff at The Woodmark at Sun City are very friendly and helpful. The facility is in pristine condition and doesn't feel like an "old folks home". August 29, 2023It is also frustrating for us in not knowing how and who we can help by leaving an anonymous review. Please contact the Executive Director personally so that you can discuss and resolve any outstanding issues.
The communication with the family was very good during the application process, but not as good after the resident has moved in. The food is not great and they have policies on holidays of just delivering box lunches, which is difficult for residents who do not have family in the area to take them out for the holiday. The meals are mediocre. Attention to my loved one's medical needs has been pretty good. The activities could be expanded as there seems to be just the basics of bingo and once a week happy hours. I have suggested other options that might be more to my loved one's interests, such as baking days as they have a group kitchen, or gardening activities, which my loved one would love. These have not been very forthcoming. My loved one also has complaints about the front door not working properly and this has not been responded to. As my loved one needs to go out the front door to walk her dog and is in a wheelchair, this is a bit troubling.

October 10, 2023We read and respond to every review and this is a difficult one for us to respond to as we keep an open-door policy and, especially for new families, we want to encourage them to communicate directly. On one hand, there are some compliments and we appreciate that. On the other hand, the best way for us to rectify issues is to know about them firsthand. For any future comments, we welcome this family member to personally contact our Executive Director.
The facility has an excellent team in place that are professional and care well for the daily needs of the residents -medications, housekeeping, friendliness etc. Unfortunately, unless initiated by the family, there is no communication after the resident has moved in. This weakness and others relating to the move-in experience can be easily remedied with administrative attention and intention. We would recommend the facility 100% with a single caveat- new resident integration into Woodmark life. Though we were told the Activity Director would engage with our brother, a reclusive personality, to encourage participation there was no follow through or contact to encourage involvement. Additionally, we were told he'd be partnered with a more social resident to help him meet people. After the first meal introduction, sadly that relationship never developed nor was he encouraged to sit with other people. We also assumed he would be given a tour of what is available and how he could use the facilities. Last week I showed him the gym area, which I was surprised to hear he had never seen. Bottom line, everything is in place for care but the introductory days are sorely lacking.

At first there were a couple of things to work out, but after that the care was excellent. The staff and care givers were good to my loved one. And I have to give a shout out to the Hospice Care and their staff. They are/were amazing.

I think the care is above average. There are some things that were stated to us that would be taken care of, and after moving in we found out they were not included. But overall, the atmosphere and everything there is very warm. And I would recommend it to other families.

It was a closer location. They would not help with financial planning. It seemed like a nice community, and there was the right amount of interaction, between the staff and residents.

Our experience: Due to inadequate staffing I would give them a fair rating. Our mom is at the end of the hall and gets looked over a lot. The cleanliness of her room, bathroom, is poor. The staff tries but for the amount of people at the facility they need to be fully staffed at all times.

I love The Woodmark at Sun City. The staff are incredibly honest and that is HUGE for me. If they make a mistake they own it and I did not get that in the other facility we had her at. They got my mother who has an eating disorder to gain weight and that has been amazing. They take residents out to the park, mom gets to walk over to the library on the other side, and they play corn hole. They incorporate OT and PT in their activities which is super helpful. I would 100% recommend them without any hesitation.

Overall good place. I would spend some time getting a sampling of meals before deciding on all meals before you sign anything. My loved one doesn't like the food. Things like hot dogs or hamburger helper for dinner. This needs to get worked out. Food is a very big thing. This is his home and what your a being fed is important. More needs to be done to integrate the new residents to their new home. They should know who to talk to when they have questions. Administration needs to return phone calls.

My family had a horrible experience at The Woodmark. My loved ones received pretty much zero health care, so my family had to be there to do it, except when we were kicked out at night. They wouldn't answer the call buttons, and our loved one was falling multiple times. Yet they still tried to charge me for extra care. We weren't even there at all the last month when my loved one was in the hospital, but they're still charging me for full care and residency for that month. Starting day one, I didn't even leave my parents there the first night. The Woodmark tried to mis-medicate my dad and wouldn't listen to us about it. And they weren't answering the call button. So in good conscience, I could not leave them there. Some of the positives: Housekeeping was great. Some of the individual caregivers were great. Their third party PT and OT were wonderful. But the nursing I would rate in negative numbers if I could. They didn't do hardly anything for my loved ones. Admin and the front desk girl were fine. The food servers were fine. However, I was floored at how badly management behaved. They walked out on meetings with me. Both of my parents contracted Covid there. The Woodmark did not even phone me when one of them was sent to the hospital. I contacted their corporate office in December and have yet to hear back from anybody there. The apartment cost is good, but the service and care were virtually nonexistent. I wouldn't want my worst enemy there. It is a horrible place. I had such good feelings going into it, but my worst fears ended up coming to light.

I did not get a good feeling after our tour with The Woodmark. The lady we were working with indicated she was going to have to evaluate my loved one. I was sitting there and he did well on the evaluation, but she immediately stated that he would have to go into memory care and be in the locked portion of the facility. We were only looking at assisted living and did not like the way they went about things which is the reason we did not choose them.

My mother was a resident from [date removed]. I lived out of state, visiting every 12 weeks. In the interim times, I had peace of mind regarding my mom's care and environment because everyone here was like family. So appreciate all they did for her.

My dad looks clean, well fed & healthy. When i visit i can see they are short staffed. Not sure how they manage laundry services, but i find clothes in my dad's closet that are not his. He no longer has his towels. The towels i see in his room are not his & are in very bad condition.

The community was great and I would recommend them to others for their loved ones. The dining options weren't that great. The meals were being delivered to the residents rooms due to the pandemic. Outside of COVID I think the food would be better.

We chose The Woodmark at Sun City because we really liked the way it looked. The original room size she was in was great, but they have recently moved the residents into new studio rooms and I am not a fan of them, they are smaller. The staff members have been great with communication with everything that has been going on. We are pleased with our experience I would absolutely recommend them.
