The ratings are truly misleading. My dad was there and did not get the service that he needed. Done and I repeat someone of the nurses and aides do not answer their call buttons. I sat in the home for almost an hour with my dad while trying to reach someone to come and clean him up as he only uses the bed pan. I called and spoke with “[name removed] ” who acted like we were inconveniencing her. To get a blanket wash 20 minute wait. The most horrific problem was my dad was experiencing a drop in his hemoglobin and I told the dialysis tech about his history as he was very lethargic and confused. He stated that we will find out Wed ( it was Monday when I spoke with him) about the hemoglobin. I ended up taking my dad to the hospital where were informed that his hemoglobin was very low and so was his potassium. They had to give him bags of potassium!! This is so sad that these facilities donor provide good service. I spoke with another resident who was having the same issue!

Unhappy and Humiliated At Manor Oaks Asylum
On [date removed], my sister was in a road accident and broke her leg and was in Broward Hospital for a few days, after which she was transferred to Manor Oaks (covered by her insurance). She made the mistake of being positively influenced by the lack of negative reviews. She was put in a double room with a very sweet elderly lady with Dementia. They were made to put on diapers because the lack of staff was unable to handle bedpans, so they were left to dirty themselves and when they called for help they were totally ignored for hours and hours. It is so upsetting and humiliating to have to sit in your own feces for most of the day while trying to cope with the pain of broken limbs. She NEVER once saw a single doctor, and only once a week, on Tuesdays, a nurse came in for a second, asking if there was anything she needed. When she was momentarily busy with a phone call, the nurse disappeared not to return till the following week! Meanwhile

EXCEPTIONAL
Professional staff who care about their patience What a concept. Their Rehab Dept is staffed by exceptional people and the entire facility is well managed and staff work well together. All in all an impressive facility.

Should be ashamed of yourself
being in this facility which I have to rank as being one of the worst staffed facilities I have been in contact with. Given how many I have been in, that says something. I was being a good grandson and trying to call because I had her direct number and frankly it is a little difficult to drive 600 miles spontaneously in the middle of the work week. Apparently that was a mistake. Not only does the phone keep disconnecting, which can be its own technical problem and have nothing to do with the staff, but it is certainly annoying. I also understand pneumonia is common among bed bound people, so I cannot blame them for the development of that. I can however question the lack of responsiveness and requests that go unanswered. For example, taking from Wed to Sat to bring my grandmother a box of tissues when my mother requested it several times during that time? Then another two days of my mother asking if someone can check about what appears to be a problem, we had to beg one of the two good nurses (one nurse and one CNA are called the A Team) to talk to someone. Sure enough pneumonia. My grandmother is having issues eating and thus her condition continues to deteriorate but I cannot fully blame the establishment. I mean after all, who would know she has NO TEETH to eat the food with? Apparently "soft diet" (or liquid) is not an option at a nursing facility. This is a common medical diet. Most recently I called my grandmother who reported that she was feeling like she was about to vomit and that she had been signalling to the nurse with the call button. I relayed that plus some other concerns she was having to the nurse's station Being an EMT means you're pretty much *always* going to be a patient advocate at some level, but if you add off-duty EMT + Most Loved Family Member having issues and you get the most protective Mama Bear that has ever lived. My grandmother is literally the only person I know who I will lay down my life for. I told the nurse about what was going on and gave the appropriate patient identifying information (name, DOB) and identified myself. She gave me a bunch of BS information. Please don't tell me that it's illegal to take a patient complaint or to talk to a grandson. I am not asking about a medical history, I am asking you to try to respond to a potential issue in one of your rooms. Further, I know the rules for patient disclosure and I also know I'M THE MEDICAL PROXY FOR THE WOMAN. She said the patient only has a granddaughter (nope, she only has a grandson). She said my last name doesn't match so I can't be a relative, ummm... that's my material grandma. Naming patterns in the US suggest I would probably have my Dad's name, plus my mother is in there daily. I always try to be particularly kind to the nurses because I know what they are going through. I've done the 12-24 hour shifts too. I've done the having 200 patients (50 of which are critical) in one shift before. When I told her that I know the laws which she is interpreting incorrectly, and that I've tolerated way more than I should because I'm sympathetic as an EMT, I was told I could shove my EMT license up my ass as well as several other choice phrases that were VERY INAPPROPRIATE TO SAY TO ANYONE. Oh honey child, now I'm not a happy person. I've taken great pleasure in the fact I have worked for over 10 years in medical and three in psychology and I have never cursed at a patient or a member of the health professions, not even in jest. Never cursed at a coworker or on shift (EMS curses a lot). Never so much as even raised my voice. That changed on [date removed]. So I ask to talk to her boss. She continues acting a fool, so now I am get louder and more ticked off while I demand to talk to a patient advocate or something. She then hangs up and calls my grandmother and threatens her. She had also threatened me that she'd have me arrested if I came to visit because I am not a relative of my grandmother. WTF? She later hung up on me and and called my grandmother and threatened to kill her. Are you ACTUALLY SERIOUS RIGHT NOW? If my grandma dies in that hellhole, we are suing since now they actually threatened an elder's life. At the stroke of midnight, we get a phone call from my grandmother (I was calling my mother to wish a happy new year), apparently she had to use the restroom and the nurses were ignoring her call button. Unless someone is coding (that means "dying") I would hope restrooms were rather high on the list of things to help a resident with. Certainly I never liked cleaning up bodily fluids... maybe that's cool at this facility? I have attempted to contact the corporate offices a few times since [name removed] (her nickname) was admitted, but the corporate office has yet to contact any of us back. It's been two weeks since we started complaining and things are only getting worse for [name removed]. The only thing going for them is that they have activities, like BINGO.

I also want to express my feelings that they took care of me like I was a family member after being here for seven weeks I’m actually disappointed that I am leaving , and I’m well enough to do all my ADLs and beyond my expectation of me being back to normal ! 4) I can’t express enough how the kitchen provided me with three dietitian meal And two snacks on my request as well I had lost 20 pounds since I’ve been here, because I wanted to lose weight and it was such a healthy diet. 5) this is my way and gratitude to say thanks to Manor Oaks holy Cross rehab, the surgeon at BGMC, Dr. [name removed]. Inhumane senior facility
For sure the worse senior care in all Ft Lauderdale. I had my loved one here for some time and all I can say it was just horrible. The care people are all angry and mean all the time and is sad to say but it seems like they dont have a hearth and they just work there for the money. My loved one had to stay all day without being changed, the food was horrible and when she called for service it will take 1 or 2 hours for a nurse to come. They will even see a patient in need of been fed because of the shaky hands and they will never take their time to feed them or help... it was so sad to see all this. The worse part was that all she had in her purse was stolen and every new thing she will get from family members will disapear in matter of hours. The facility is not clean as well , all rooms smell horrible and service is none. If you really care for your loved one please do your research, this place doesn't care about he elderly and to give love in any way. Horrible experience and never though humans will treat humans like this...
