Recommend for independent living
Most of staff are very nice and eager to help. If something is broken takes a while to get fixed. Overall nice place. I would recommend them only if your loved one is able to get around it themselves. My Dad is needing a little more care and it is rough. I spend a lot of nights there.

The Palms at O'Nei review
The place was clean. The staff was friendly. At times I had to make sure that my mother was getting her meds and properly. The meals were alright. Nothing spectacular. The residents wanted more soup and The Palms just didn't make what the residents asked for. After Covid they stopped Activities and didn't do much in the way of bringing anything back except for Bingo and a few other games. Initially the value for cost was good. Mom had a nice room and she didn't mind being there. We could afford it. Mom was there for a year and then they jumped the prices up and we could no longer afford to keep her there and had to move her to another less expensive facility. The owner said he would work with us but that was when we were walking out the door after we moved her. We would have preferred to keep her there. Overall it was a decent place for the money.

Didn't work out
My wife was not ready for the assisted living when she went to the The Palms at O'Neil community. She needed more help than they were equipped to give. The staff was not well trained or interested in helping.

Beware of false information
Certain staff members were very helpful, others really didn't care. Multiple medications were stopped without my knowledge or a physicians order. The food was awful. I took him out to dinner at least 3 times a week. Activities were a joke. They had a Wii game. Very bad experience.

Suggestions for advocates when making living arrangements
It is a very good PERSONAL care home. Once a loved one starts to need more one on one services it is time to go to skilled nursing. My only negative comment would be: around September of last year my mother said she felt she needed more one on one care and I should start looking for a nursing home. I called and told the palms I was giving one months notice about moving my mother out. They asked why, I explained that her needs changed where she would need assistance getting to the bathroom and assistance with dressing herself. I was told they could provide that and there would not be a price increase for level of care needs. A couple of months into this new arrangement it was suggested I bring in a hospice/palliative care group to help. I did and after an incident which sent her to the hospital I was informed that she had to stay with a hospice palliative care group to be able to stay living there. I feel that they should have told me that the extra care was to be short term or explain what exactly their definition of extra care was. I am not faulting anyone at the palms. Everything was moving so quickly and decisions had to be made on a dime. I should have requested something in writing about what services they could and would supply. My advice to anyone, anywhere would be to get things in writing or tape conversations with people so you remember the little details. Don't feel pressured into making a decision on a loved ones care "right now".

Definitely a good value for the services that you get - the main staff are exceptional
[name removed] who is one the charge nurses is extremely helpful and communicative with our family on a regular basis. [name removed] who is a nursing assistance is always pleasant to speak with, up beat, and makes every single residents that she comes in contact with that they are the only one she is caring for. [name removed] which is another nursing assistant is the same way. [name removed] helps the residents get to and from the dining hall, helps them outside if they are in wheelchairs or to other places and he is just really nice and friendly. We have met some very nice communicative people working here. The reason we gave it an overall 4 out of 5 rating is the food - it not really that good it is a lot of carbs and starches. However they do have nice activities they are starting to bring back, they have a nice gazebo thing outside and our loved ones enjoys bingo.

The Palms At O'neil
I thought they worked diligently to keep the community well maintained. The staff were very accommodating with our parent's needs. They made an effort to give them access to things like transportation to and from doctor's appointments and were very cooperative with their needs. Just about everyone in the home had some sort of special accommodations and the staff were very accommodating and on top of their individual care needs. They were particularly good about my mother's special medications and even when her prescriptions changed, they were very on top of it. In terms of activities, they did have a transport bus meant for taking the residents on off-community trips, however the bus was broken down much of the time. We were very comfortable with this community having both parents here and were very pleased with them. The only drawback or thing that I think they could possibly improve on is that the food was not very good and was not homemade. Overall, I would definitely recommend The Palms At O'neil to other's.

Horrible
I worked there an don't let the appearance fool you. Never enough workers. Workers get more food than the residents. Owners are very nasty an never there. Cold in the summer an winter. It's personal care but people are on lifts and should be in other facilities. Beds are rarely changed. Find a better place for your love ones

Best for the Bucks!
I have found this community to be the best in the area for the pricing. Being family-owned, they are very involved. It is decorated nicely for each season. In any place you are going to have those workers who are new to the industry and learning, however I see that they are monitored by the floor's med techs who follow up on the care. I can take any question that I have to the desk for help and it is addressed. The administrators also give their personal cell numbers if there is an issue. Truly hands on owners and staff.

A Place for Mom has scored The Palms at O'Neil 8.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
