Big complaints from my brother who's at McCandless. No service in the dining area and questionable food service during the weekend. Could someone there explain the problem?

Our family had an in person tour with Sunrise of McCandless and from what we could see it seemed like that had good care but the community itself just seemed to be a little dated
Sunrise of McCandles would have been our second choice. We knew them prior to visiting because we had other family members who stayed here and they had a great experience. My husband had dementia and could get aggressive and they were not set up to deal with that type of behavior, so we felt this was not going to be the right fit for him. But due to other past experiences, it is a great place and we had no issues with them.
Sunrise of McCandless was an older facility and seemed kind of drab. It just didn't seem lively enough for my loved one, who is full of life. The staff was more laid back, and I just wasn’t impressed with the level of activity available.
we really like the overall openness of the community, its very bright and welcoming not gloomy at all. The staff are great and keep up with communication any time something happens to our loved one. The place is pretty much immaculate.

They keep the pools closed all summer and winter, so do not expect to wear a bathing suit or short sleeved shirt.

Overall we're pretty happy with them and have had a positive experience, but I do think it's a little expensive. I think the environment is nice - the facility looks nice. Some of the staff have been really great, others not. I feel the aspect where they have the most room for improvement is the food. My loved one tells me it just doesn't have a lot of taste.

We were never really informed about what activities were happening in the center. My loved one was put in a room and was given his meals and his medicine and that was it. I would not recommend this place to everyone. My loved one was ill and sat in pain for a while because they would not give him meds. He was not shaved because he was showered and they said we would have to be more to have that and increase his level of care. I felt that the staff were very condescending and don't know answers. They also missed one of his medications for a month that caused some issues.

The meals and dining service at Sunrise is usually pretty good. There are activities like bingo, movie night and card games, but it seems like only a few residents and the same residents participate in them. The value for cost is not bad, but still pretty expensive.

They're very attentive. The residents seem happy and clean, and the place itself seems clean. There's lots of staff around all the time. They constantly have people reviewing my loved one's situation and care. For instance, I just had a meeting with eight of her caregivers, and they were very helpful. Everyone is very helpful, available, and pleasant.

Very regimented with assigned seating for meals, morning and evening “room checks”, and furnishings in common areas seemed worn. Didn’t give me a good feel and wasn’t crazy about room layouts either.

Do not put your love one here. After the fact we heard many bad stories about this place. My father was in this place for a brief time. They had him in the wrong area of the place and at night he was found laying on the floor of his room.... no supervision at night he was rushed to the hospital and died... do not let this happen to you. Heartbreaking. They didn’t even give back the money that was due us being he was in there a brief time.. Put cameras in your room if you are there already and monitor what is going on at night.... I wish we would have :(

This place is a nightmare. Don’t be fooled when you go an meet with them. My father was here for a brief time. He was put into the wrong area with not the right supervision. He was found during the night on the floor helpless.. they rushed him to the hospital where he later died. They were not taking responsibility for their actions... I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy, if you are already stuck there buy a small camera to put in the room to see what is going on. They were certainly not checking on my Dad....To date they have not given us back our money. Just terrible.

We liked this community when we toured it. The people we met were friendly. The community is nice and they seem to offer some nice activities. This community was unfortunately out of our price range.
