Overall Family Choice seemed like a nice place, but it did not end up being a good fit for our loved one. The staff were friendly, and the facility itself was clean and well kept. However, I feel like they overmedicated my loved one. She just seemed much too sedated whenever we would visit.

I love Family Choice for my mom. It is very quiet. The nurses on staff are very friendly and helpful. She enjoys the food and loved Karaoke night. I wish they did more stuff like that. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. They do a great job and truly care.

I was looking for a home to place my terminally ill mother quickly as she could no longer care for herself and there were extenuating circumstances with extreme elder abuse by her neighbors, so she had to get out of that situation. This home was a 5 bed care facility that was basically for Alzheimer's patients 12-16 years older than my mother. The owner was nice but was not involved with daily life at the home. There were only 2 people working in the home a cook-housecleaner, and 1 man to tend to all 5 of the residents needs. The staff was nice enough to me, and if I asked while visiting would take care of what I asked, but there was fighting amongst the two of them that I wasn't aware of until one was fired, and one quit. I wish I would have been able to have taken more time to observe the facility and the care of the residents. This was not the correct choice for my mother. The 1st few days she was moved to a TV room but just left there alone, and when she asked for water was told she complained too much and they were too busy. She very quickly could no longer sit up and had to stay in bed, and she was not checked on for several hours at a time. They definetly need to have 3 full time people to work at this facility. 1 person to check on the residents every hour or so to see if the need anything. My mother was only drinking water and eating jello, but she could hardly ever get anyone to tend to her. She said if they did they were forcing her to drink/eat fast they said they had no time for her. The other residents I observed were gotten up for a shower, meals, and then left in bed. My mother wanted someone to talk to her at least a little bit. She just gave up, it was very sad.

We're going today to pick up my mother and remove her from the facility because we've had some real major problems. The home itself is very attractive. It's clean and inviting. I really liked it and we met the owners and they were really lovely people. We thought we were doing the right thing for my mother. I was led to believe that there was always going to be a male and a female there to care for the residents - that is not what happens. My mother got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, apparently they didn't hear the sensor, and she had an accident and the male attendant went to clean her up. It was devastating for my mother to have a male taking care of her like that. The next morning he commences to put her in the shower. When I went to see her she was just so upset, it broke my heart. I told them my mother needs a female to take care of her. The female caregiver was asleep. He should have woken her up to take care of my mother. There are nights when the female is off and there is only a male to take care of the female patients. I think that's really not a good thing.
