1 my husband was having health problems and that's the reason we moved here to be close to kids but everybody has been really nice and very helpful 2 it could be a little better. It looks like somethings are just old and need to be replaced like carpeting, and outdoor decks need to be power washed. 3 everyone here is just lovely. My husband and I are glad we're here and we've got so many friends already. 4 we have a senior apartment and I also have people coming in to help me with my husband and that was very important when we signed up here 5 the food is pretty good, there is always something different on the menu and if you don't like it, all you have to do is put in what you want on your order 6 I don't do any of the activities because I'm busy taking care of my husband. He does the rosary and we both do the pub on Wednesday and ice cream socials on Friday and Sunday. 7 I really don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems to be pretty good for us... Read more

I would not recommend Oak Park Place to others. They kicked my loved one out on the first day. The nurse demanded that a family member be present at all times. They're also having staffing issues.

We're happy Mom moved to Oak Park there are many opportunities for socializing and various activities offered. I've never walked in without being greeted. All the staff, nurses and even the chef are so friendly. Mom has had a little problem getting the help she need with the broken arm, but other than that she's happy and in a better place.

I toured this facility and it was a nice place with lots of activities and in a good location. You had to pay several hundred dollars to put your name on their waiting list, which would go towards the first month's rent if you moved in.
Response from Oak Park Place - Dubuque
May 4, 2023Hi Michelle, thank you for sharing your experience!
My Dad has not been in there to long but what I have experienced so far from the staff has really impressed me. They are very polite and concerned about how they are working with my Dad. You can tell they truly understand how to work with individuals who are struggling at this stage in their lives.

I liked the people there - everyone seemed really nice. It was a lot better experience than we had at a previous community. The staff at Oak Park Place were much more caring, not just toward my mom but to the other residents as well. It didn’t seem like just a job to them - they truly seemed to care. I was very happy with my mom’s brief time there.
They have great staff. Very accommodating.

It is a newer community and despite the struggles with staffing they are really doing a good job - for instance sometimes our loved ones laundry takes awhile to get done but its not a big problem. The director is fantastic and every time we call the day to day staff are always very responsive. Our loved one really enjoys the meals and dining service. He really likes the convenience of the transportation that they offer.

The community was good; however, it was too expensive for us overall.
[name removed] who we first contacted and who gave us the tour has been fantastic. For the first two weeks or longer he would stop by our loved ones room to check on her and make sure she is settling in just fine. [name removed] who is their receptionist (she might have other duties) but she is super responsive and if someone is not happy she is right on top of it. [name removed] who is there top chef is very good, he goes out and talks to the residents at the tables to make sure they are happy and satisfied. We really appreciate everything about them and we really could not ask for much more. We have heard this is the best place in Dubuque which so far seems to be true. They are really good about picking up the garbage each day. The meals are wonderful and they have great activities.

They are grossly understaffed. In the memory care unit, there is no staff to be found sometimes. I wish I had never taken my loved one here.

I did not get a good feeling from the beginning when I walked in for the tour. When we were walking around, the tour gal did not know any residents by name and they did not seem to know her well either. We also went down to see an activity that was supposed to be going on but something wasn't working with the internet. The residents said something like "this happens all the time". It was just not the right fit.
I would recommend you check out the community. The staff and friendliness are amazing and if I could rate them a 10 I would. [name removed] was our first contact and [name removed] who took [name removed] place was just as good and we were thrilled with the transition.

Nice Place but not enough staff to assist my loved one.
My mother has been a resident at Oak Park for over two years. The services provided are very good. She gets the help she needs with getting dressed and other needs. There are plenty of activities such as bingo and crafts. [Name removed] does a great job of organizing them. There is also live music provided at least once a week. There are trips planned to go shopping or just for site seeing. I am very satisfied with her care and services that she receives and would recommend Oak Pack Place.

My elderly sister lives in this community. She really has had a positive experience. The community is tucked back into a quiet neighborhood. My sister has seen deer and wild turkeys outside her window. Every time I visit I am pleased with how friendly the staff are to us. The community has educational events that are very favorable to my sister. The community recently had an amazing presentation on President Lincoln. I feel like the leadership really cares about my sister and the other residents. I am happy that we picked this facility to for her to live in.

My parents live here currently. One of the things I appreciate about the community is that they involve the residents in some of the decision making. They really attempt to hear their concerns and get feedback about what they want. From what I’ve seen, the dining room staff has been very nice. However, while some of the people that I’ve had contact with have been very helpful, others have not. The food is hit or miss, some days it’s good and some days it isn’t. They only serve breakfast and dinner, but the apartment that my parents have has a full sized kitchen so they can make their own food if they want to. The menu has 2 choices, a main entrée and an alternate, and there’s a salad bar. I’ve heard, though, that it sometimes isn’t filled enough for everyone to have some. My parents have said that the continental breakfast is the highlight of the day. The cleanliness of the facility is good and housekeeping is supposed to come by the room once a week to vacuum and dust. There are a few aspects of the community that I think they could improve, like making an effort to involve the residents in the activities they provide and creating specialized activities for specific age ranges. I also think they could upgrade the lighting and integrate the assisted and independent living sides so they can all socialize together. I wouldn’t mind recommending this place, but I would say they have a ways to go on improving certain aspects and that you should do your research before moving your loved one in.

Our experience at Oak Park Place has been great. The people there seem very happy, and the staff go out of their way to make everyone's stay as comfortable as they can. The food is good. I find that they do repeat some meals, but there's generally a good variety throughout the week. They offer a lot of activities in the community as well, and residents can keep track of the schedule on the calendars displayed throughout the community. Overall, I would recommend Oak Park Place to others.
