The interaction with the staff has been great. The food looks good, and they have a good menu options. They have plenty of activites. We picked this community, because of the price and the amenities. They could improve on the food, and go back to serving the residents in the dining area. They have a dailiy check in, with the residents. I would recommend to other families.... Read more

After 7 years and over $[removed], I tried to the $[removed] owed back to my mom since she passed away. They gave me the run around and 'checks in the mail' BS, then I get a notification that I have to go through the bankruptcy to my money back. I am livid. They ignored my calls. Lied to me about the check being on the way. Disgusting behavior. I can't believe that with the number of property they own and rates, they cannot pay their debtors. Complete mismanagement. SMH

We had received great feedback from others about this facility, but we've struggled with our experience so far. Our main concerns being falls and weight loss for our loved one. We've reached out to the Executive Director several times and it's been very difficult to get straight information about our loved one and what's actually going on. We're just not sure how much of it is due to Nature vs Nurture. Communication with the family has not been good. For example, our loved one was at the hospital being prepped for a procedure and we had no idea. We didn't receive a call or notification from the facility. Unfortunately, I think this is the only facility in our area that accepts Medicare. We haven't been satisfied with things here at all. I wouldn't recommend this facility to family and friends.

What we really like about the McKendree Village community is the staff - they are very responsive and very caring towards the residents and based on that experience so far we would recommend them to other families.
The main challenges we've had are around maintenance availability and follow through of my loved one's cottage and horrible lawn care (supposed to be included). Overall though, it's been a blessing. McKendree is also the only facility that we found that offers Independent living AND allow pets.

I toured McKendree Village and I didn't feel it was as secure as other communities we saw. There was access to the elevator and that would've only been dealt with by an arm bracelet. We chose another community because my mom was extremely exit-seeking, and I didn't think it would be secure enough.
Please! Do not place your loved one here! Short staffed. No communication. The residents are hardly changed. Some of the staff are rude & clueless!!! The administrator ignores the complaints!

The facility was great and the staff were all trying very hard. It was just too expensive for what I was looking for.
I toured McKendree Village and it was a nice facility and a good tour. I just felt more comfortable at another facility that we visited but this one was second choice.
We chose McKendree Village because the administrative staff was great to work with and I was able to meet the activities director and the nurses on our tour. The residents here also looked very happy. They are great with communication, they call anytime there is an issue or a question and are prompt to call back. I would recommend to others looking.

[name removed] provided us with a great tour! She answered all questions in a very straight forward and effective manner. McKendree Village seems to be the best option for us.

Placed mother in facility for rehab after hospitalization. First of all the communication between the facility and family is non existent, unless you complain a lot. Most the care my mother received was terrible. She has lost weight, unable to sleep, ignored when she called to go the bathroom. The person I left in their care has declined so much. My mother had wounds that needed healing. They didn't offer any extra nourishment to promote tissue healing. I have compared them to another facility that my mother had been placed after a hospitalization and there is such a vast difference. My mother left the previous place with a healing wound, increased appetite and ability to walk with assistance. She now is malnourished, and unable to ambulate at all. I have failed as a daughter to put my mother into a safe place. Please do not put your loved one in their care. Take this from a medical professional of 35 years. This is not a place for healing and care.

The care at the health center/nursing home part is sad. Not one person that works there knows what dementia is and NO ONE THERE CARES about the residents. They are only there for a paycheck and that’s it. And what is so sad is that administration DOES NOT CARE WHAT STAFF DOES. Call lights ring for 15 to 45 minutes before someone even comes to the room. If your loved one is wet, THEY DON’T CARE. THEY WILL NOT DRY ANYONE THAT IS WET. You have to ask over and over again to get family member changed. THEY TELL YOU YOUR FAMILY MEMBER TELLS THEM THEY ARE NOT HUNGRY, WELL FOR A DEMENTIA PATIENT, NO REALLY MEANS YES. BUT THEY DON’T CARE. THEY WILL NOT FEED THEM. THEY ARE NEVER OFFERED A DRINK, THE STAFF NEVER BRINGS WATER TO THE PATIENTS AND IF THEY DO IT IS A CHILDS PLASTIC CUP. ADMINISTRATION SHOULD BE ASHAMED. I HOPE OTHERS WILL JOIN ME AND CONTACT THE APPROPRIATE PEOPLE AND LET THEM START INVESTIGATING THIS FACILITY. NEWS Channel 5 is my next email., and then not sure yet from there, but the governor is on my list. And they do not have RNs working there. They are supposedly LPN. The workers are ones that have been fired from reputable hospitals and can’t get a job anywhere else. Do not take a loved one there or your worst enemy. Not even a dog

Had a loved one there for rehab. Ridiculous. Understaffed, do no understand the meaning of dementia. Kept telling my loved one to pull string for help. Dementia patients do not understand that concept. If they get hungry or thirsty, too bad. No one will offer them anything to eat or drink and if they are wet, they stay that way. This place should be shut down. I am writing letters to senators and to the governor and joint commission and the state health department. The need to close this facility. If someone falls, or well, they will not do anything. Lazy off the street techs and only LPNs. They dress like RNs but are not. Needs to be shut down. On my list of priorities since I have moved my mom is to see that this place gets shut down. Sorry excuse for a nursing facility

Dear mckendree Village wow where do I start my My Mother lives here and its about to end due to the way it turned out so I visit for a few years past months the Towers dining room don’t have enough train servers and always understaff half the time we don’t get what we order.food comes out cold. Its never was like this now we have to be lucky to be served. Next marketing should be ashamed of how they let people who clearly are not independent live here I see many residents roaming around can’t take care of themselves it really sad there was Fight with two residents due to medical assistance !!!!!. There some good parts which I can see the maintenance are fast to most calls .coffee shop and the movie room my mother loves it’s very clean well maintained .front desk very nice overall it’s was a bad experience that could be fix but they don’t care

Our mother has been in long term care a year now. We visit 4-7 days a week. The food is good, she is happiest about that, although they struggle to stay on a schedule. There are some very good employees, but, there is a lot of turnover in "technician's" and this has led to a lot of negligence, especially during the weekends. They only order incontinence "diapers" in size large, for use on every occupant regardless of the severity of their incontinence, or, physical size. Since the family gets charged back for these as "supplies" the least they could do is order the right capacity and size. Too many times we have stopped by for a visit and mom either reeks, or, has a puddle under her, and "techs" are gathered around the nurses station gossiping. Bells and lights ringing constantly. This is supposed to be a step up from public funded long term care, but, it is run like a warehouse.

in the past few months, I have seen some things which need some attention. the oak dining room for instance does not have enough servers for the # of persons to be served without having office staff brought in to wait on tables, some independent persons are made to move to the manor for persons that require special care however one person in fact is getting on fine with border line dementia and is being moved from a apartment to the manor saying they need special care although another person is allowed to remain in the independent apartment because they have a care giver, a person to stay with them and assist if needed while the other person is made to give up most of their possessions they have lived and loved with because they do not have a care giver..is this right without giving this person information on a care giver..????????.

I have just read some of these reviews and they appear to have been written by people who toured the facility but do not live here. I have lived in one of the cottages for just over two years. The cottages are updated before people move in. The apartments over in the towers are not small. They vary in size. A lot of services are offered here and this is about the only facility around with an indoor swimming pool. The residents here are happy and the staff is great. It is difficult for me to speak to cost, since these facilities are all so secretive about what they charge. However, the costs listed here look higher for the most part than what they actually are. I can only address the independent living, as that is where I am.
