Our Tour Experience

I thought it was a really nice facility, maybe a little too nice for our loved one's taste. They also seemed to concentrate more on memory care, so a lot of the residents were more impaired than our loved one. Because of that, I didn't feel he would have had as much opportunity for the social interactions we were wanting him to experience.

Marvelous Maplewood at Brewster

Greetings from Maplewood at Brewster! It has been my pleasure to be a resident here for more than two years. There are many activities that residents can enjoy based on their interests. In fact, there is a daily planner listing events for each and every day of the week. Staff members, nurses, certified nurses aides, wait and culinary staff are courteous, respectful, and kind. I highly recommend Maplewood at Brewster as a vital and vibrant place where residents strive and thrive.

We Love Maplewood!

We had to take my husband’s 89 year old father to live with us when his wife died suddenly in October. After about two weeks of living with him, we realized that we were going to need help. We could not leave him alone because he was confused, lonely and becoming frail. So we contacted a few assisted living places and visited. When we got to Maplewood at Brewster, we knew it was going to be the right fit. From the first visit in October until now, [date removed], we couldn’t be happier. The facility and grounds are beautiful. The rooms are lovely. Our dad loves the food, and the staff is helpful, welcoming and friendly. Everyone worked extra hard through the pandemic to keep all the residents and staff safe, and we were informed of what was happening every step of the way. We can’t wait for activities to resume in full and look forward to many happy years at Maplewood.

An amazing facility and caring staff!

We realized that my father-in-law could no longer care for himself at home. From the minute we walked into Maplewood at Brewster we knew that this was the right place for him. We were given a wonderful tour, had all of our questions and concerns answered and my father-in-law was able to see a room upstairs in assisted living that he liked. His room was close to the dining room and fireplace where we'd often see him sitting and talking with others. Later my father-in-law was moved to currents as he needed more support. To say that we were extremely comfortable in both settings would be an understatement. The nursing staff were amazing, calls were always made to us if they had any concerns and when he needed hospice services they were in to see him consistently. He happily celebrated his 98th birthday with us and staff in February. All staff we interacted with were amazing and we were so happy that he had many people both staff and those who lived there he considered his friends.

The Finest home away from home ever

If you are looking for the best senior living place on the Cape , then look no more. Maplewood exemplifies everything you need and want! Their care is second to none and they make it their mission to get to know all their residents and ensure they are happy. My dad was a resident recently and I am beyond grateful for the care he was provided with. Not only is their care amazing, the facility itself is magnificent from the Dining room to the lobby and anywhere in between.. Don’t hesitate to move your loved ones to Maplewood. They will love it there and you will too I

Maplewood at Brewster is the BEST!

Maplewood at Brewster has been amazing when it came to Assisted Living and then Memory Care for my mother. Maplewood is family and the staff are all outstanding! My mother has been well cared for and kept safe during the darkest of times this past year. I have had total faith in their care, compassion, love and support for her. She has been kept busy with lots of wonderful activities, cared for by the best and fed with delicious and nutritious meals. I really couldn't ask for more and I will be forever thankful and grateful to the staff at Maplewood of Brewster.

Friendly Community

This community is a bit far from us and we aren't able to visit very often. It is very expensive for what you get. My loved one is in a double room with a room, and the furniture they provided is not extravagant. This is for a nursing home.

Eldery Care with COVID

There was a big issue in the kitchen, and they had everyone eating in their room for two months, right after that the pandemic hit. The nice thing was that all the residents were already separated. The cook has been fired, but we haven't received a good answer as to what happened in the kitchen. For the most part everything seems to be good there. The only other thing that was alarming, is that they told the resident they had COVID, but they didn't show the residents who was the patient. They just started taking temperatures. The resident was concerned because they wouldn't tell them and it bothered the resident.

The Most Outstanding Memory Care Facility Anywhere

Maplewood at Brewster is an absolutely wonderful place for Memory Care or in addition assisted and Independent living. In particular I was totally amazed at how incredible the staff, services, facility and food were during my 16 months there with my wife [name removed] who had Early Onset Alzheimer's. I took all my meals with her plus sometimes stayed for activities. After supper [name removed] watched a Netflix movie with her friends while I went home to feed the dog returning to watch TV in her room with her. I have firsthand knowledge of quite a number of Memory Care facilities because both my mother in law and sister in law passed away from Alzheimer's. I have also been a member of the Alzheimer's association for 25 years through which I have become very familiar with what is required in Memory Care. Maplewood at Brewster far exceeds any of those requirements. The staff is just extraordinary in their kindness, care and compassion for all of the residents in Memory Care. They all go out of their way to insure that the needs of everyone are well taken care of with great understanding of what it takes to deal with the various issues of dementia in all of its challenging forms. There are optional activities throughout the day of all sorts to keep residents engaged and involved where the staff is well trained in being able to get through the fog of dementia. Music is a good part of it all which has been shown to be one of the best ways to get through to people with dementia. Every week there may be several musical groups to entertain as well as always having sing-alongs etc. Each day features discussion of lighthearted items like what happened on this day in history etc. There are also games and art projects to enjoy for residents who want. Beyond all of this there are also once or twice weekly out and about trips on a handicap equipped Maplewood van with a guide and assistants taking those who wish on short tours and trips to various nearby places around Cape Cod. This can be anything from a trip to the beach and other scenic places to getting ice cream etc. Memory Care at Maplewood at Brewster is an extraordinary facility in itself featuring two beautiful lounges with big screen TV, a wonderful art room, library and magnificent outdoor courtyard. The courtyard which is completely secure features an outdoor fireplace, pergola, covered picnic tables and benches. It is all beautifully landscaped with a short paved path where residents can walk around the garden in season. As to the food it is all absolutely delicious featuring restaurant quality items with choices at each meal. The variety is amazing ranging across the board from wonderful local seafood and meats to local garden vegetables. There is an endless variety of fresh made great tasting deserts. All of this is served by the very attentive staff in the most amazing dining room with open kitchen where you can see the chef at work. In case it is not obvious I consider Maplewood at Brewster to be the finest facility of its kind anywhere for Memory Care or assisted and independent living for that matter. Any person with dementia issues given their situation is sure to get the most out of life when living there due to the extraordinary staff, wonderful activities, amazing facility and outstanding food.

I can sleep at night ;0)

I cannot say enough about Maplewood at Brewster. The staff is warm and welcoming. The food is incredible and the difference in my Dad within just a month was incredible. My Dad is a retired Veteran, who is not very talkative but sweet. Living alone was not an option for him and he had become depressed. He was sitting too much due to lack or drive for interaction and activity.... and in chronic pain due to this. With no one to talk to he became more of a recluse and at first we thought he was becoming a tiny bit forgetful (I was terrified that this may be due to onset of Alzheimers). He did not require assistance (a level of care), but if he missed a meal they would check on him. The staff helped him socialize in the beginning so my fear of him sitting alone was quelled. I sleep better at night! I love him so and no longer worry. Dad moved into Maplewood. Within a month (yes, just a month), he was less pale, having meals with friends, walking better with an improved posture AND his memory improved as he began moving around a socializing. His mind, body and spirit were being exercised ;0) I work in the healthcare field so my standards are extremely high. Maplewood does not disappoint in terms of elder activities and embodies what assisted living should be. We consider everyone at Maplewood our extended family!

Excellent Care and Service at Maplewood in Brewster

It is a genuine pleasure to thank the staff of Maplewood for the excellent care and service I receive during my post-operative stay from hip replacement surgery in May 2019. Knowing that the medical team at Cape Cod Orthopedics prefers that patients be released to their homes following surgery, I needed to make other arrangements for my post-op care. I live alone in a lovely Condo in Orleans with two flights of stairs. Unsure of my post-op health, I wanted to be somewhere where people would be available to assist me if I needed help with daily activities. Maplewood at Brewster offered the respite care I was looking for. Not only are housekeeping, Laundry service, and meals provided but staff was available to check in on me and help where I needed it. I met with members of the staff to describe the type of services we felt would be best for me in the situation. The dining service was excellent, with well balanced, delicious meals served by efficient and cheerful wait staff. The facility offers an extensive list of activities to provide diversity of programs for physical fitness, educational programs, entertainment and other programs that appeal to a variety of interests for the residents. Each and every team member quickly learned the names of their residents and greeted everyone by first names on a daily basis. The teams focus on the residents’ comfort was evident with the overwhelming satisfaction of everyone I met over the course of my stay. It was truly sad to leave all my new friends when it came to an end. I highly recommend the facility for anyone faced with a situation where respite care will enhance their lives. Thank you to everyone, Staff and residents, for making my post-op stay a wonderful time of my life. [Name removed] Orleans, MA

Lovely Staff!!

I had a tour of this community for my loved one and everything went very well. They gave me a detailed look of their facility and made sure to answer any questions I had for them in detail. It was a lovely experience and I truly have no complaints. We ended up selecting a place closer to her friends and family.

If only we had it to do over again.

The worst decision we have ever made was to move our Mom into the Currents neighborhood at Maplewood at Brewster. In four short months Mom became too weak to walk and eat. From Maplewood she went into rehab to try to get strong once again with only minor success. Mom is now able to lift her head up off of her chest, she is smiling more and even laughing, but she will probably never walk again. Maplewood's recommendation to put Mom on Trazodone for safety reasons started her downfall. She went from being one of the most upbeat/popular residents at her former assisted living residence to a shell of a person that couldn't even lift her head up to communicate or to eat. She was walking fine (slow but steady) when she moved in back in February, now she is wheelchair bound. Mom started fainting fairly often while under Maplewood's care and wound up in the hospital multiple times. Since we moved Mom out of Maplewood this past June she has not had one fainting/syncope episode. It seems that the management at Maplewood wants their Currents residents to be the same-- knocked out, sleepy, unresponsive, and in other words easy to manage. They also seem to count on families being uninvolved in their loved one's care. They have lied to us on numerous occasions, tried to overcharge us, and often would not respond to emails. If you sign a contract with Maplewood it means nothing. I was told that the figures on our signed contract were wrong when we had a dispute over the amount of money charged to us. Try to look beyond the beautiful building and grounds; all is not as it appears. We hope that with this review we will save others from the heartache that we have gone through. If only we had it to do over again.

Thank you for your recent communication re: your mother's recent stay with us at Maplewood at Brewster. We are sorry you did not have a positive experience at the community. Our goal is to provide a safe and dignified environment for all of our residents, where we encourage family participation and communication regarding resident care. As I am unware of the specifics of your mother's case, I can only communicate in generalities regarding Maplewood's standards for care and services. As an assisted living provider, we do not provide recommendations or prescriptions for medications. If a resident needs medication or treatment, we provide assistance to residents by reaching the resident's physician for their medical and clinical expertise. We, as an assisted living provider, only administer medication that is prescribed by the resident's own physician, while communicating with the family or responsible party to ensure they are up to date. Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss the specifics of your mother's care, as well as your overall experience. I am happy to review details of your mother's specific situation directly and would encourage you to reach out to me by calling 203/604/5617 or by email: [removed]. I look forward to the opportunity to speak further. Respectfully yours, Andrea S. Ellen, Vice President, Maplewood Senior Living

Becoming Expensive To Live Here

This is a nice community, but it isn't working out for my brother in law. He isn't very happy here. When he first moved into the community he was in the assisted living portion, but they moved him to the other side. They also increased his rate. They also charge $1,000 for medication management. This is a good community, it looks great and modern. It is just becoming to expensive for our budget.

Where can mom live if she can't live me?

When you walk in the door of Maplewood, your first impression will be how can I make this work, and I cannot afford it! But two weeks later my mom is laughing, participating in activities and doing better than I expected. She is smiling in photos they forwarded me, not saying cheese with that forced smile. I know her smile, and in the months prior to her move into Maplewood, I have not seen it. I only saw the lost look on her face and empty sad eyes. The entire staff is compassionate and very dedicated to their careers. I never encountered so many professionals who reminded me that I need to trust them to do their jobs and when you let go of your mom and place that trust in their hands, the endless nights of worrying become a comfort in knowing I made the right decision. If something unexpected arises, they will do everything to make mom's days and nights with less agitation for her. It's all about mom! Everyone is accessible via email, or cellphone, or just a phone call away. I feel very connected and I am grateful for the awesome staff and their dedication everyday to the residents of Maplewood at Brewster.
