Unacceptable elder care
My mother has been a resident in the memory care unit for a few months. The building is old and in disrepair, it feels like a prison. Cement block walls, tiny dirty windows with curtains always closed. Small cramped rooms with nowhere to visit loved ones. Activities for residents are almost nonexistent. A few bingo games and periodically musicians, neither work well for hearing impaired. They really “sell you” on the place, but don’t live up to the sales pitch. I found the staff difficult to work with. My mother hasn’t worn her own clothes since being admitted. No pillow case for days. Shared toilet with 4 other residents. There isn’t any space to make her room “her own”. Most of the time people are gathered into one windowless room and left to sit, alone, in front of a tv.

I do not recommend this facility
Based on my personal experience with my mother's stay at this facility for a few months, I cannot recommend it. I often found my mother incontinent for extended periods of time and staff became disgruntled when it was brought to their attention. She was put to bed at night in the clothes she wore during the day, only to find the day shift got her up with the same soiled clothes. I informed the staff that family will do labeled laundry, yet caregivers would send items anyway and countless clothes went missing. Substandard unit cleanliness. Toilet seats were often covered with feces from another resident. Dust and debris on the floor, particularly under the bed, were only swept when brought to the attention of the unit manager. My mother's bed was pushed against the wall where bed linen was in contact with a baseboard heater. Kirtland Rehab and Care do not match the Admission Coordinator's exaggerated description.

about Kirtland Rehabilitation and Care

Kirtland Rehabilitation and Care offers Private and Semi-Private. Learn more.

A Place for Mom has scored Kirtland Rehabilitation and Care 1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
