Overall, I think this is a great place. They're very good at keeping the common areas clean. The apartments are good but a bit small, especially when you're restricted from being able to get out and about much. My loved ones felt a little imprisoned. But the management did a good of job of trying to make sure there were at least some activities that could be done safely, at least once a week with social distancing. The Senior Center and Adult Daycare that are close by have not been open due to Covid. And their proximity was a big reason we chose this apartment. Aside from Covid, this is a wonderful place to be for an elderly person to continue a good quality of life and still maintain their independence.... Read more

As a relative of one of the residents, I have witnessed a gradual decay of services at Herndon Harbor House. Basic maintenance takes far too long. There is a frequent turnover in staff, and they are generally slow to respond and work limited hours. Cable and internet services are antiquated, and the companies have not been allowed a chance to upgrade their on-site equipment, even at no cost. [name removed] puts on a nice splashy web page, but in reality, the place looks nothing like the pictures. About a decade ago, there were a lot of different activities in the adjacent senior center. Over time, that has been cut back to the point of where the offerings are scarce. On a positive note, the place is kept very clean, including the landscaping. If you are looking for just the basics for a limited income, this place is okay. But if you are looking for an active 62+ senior community, look somewhere else.

We were able to have an in person tour and our experience was fine. We really liked the staff members we met with, they were friendly and very helpful. The people living there were courteous. The only reason we did not choose Herndon House was because the apartments did not fit our needs.

I met with [name removed] at appointed time. She was very pleasant and informative about the property. She showed my daughter and I a one bedroom unit (already rented) and walked us through the common areas. They do have a waiting list, and as I have not yet retired, I filled out a pre - application. Definitely interested.

This place shared a senior center with them.Had some type of activity going on at the time. Hard to find a parking spot. They didn't have a model to show us, rather disappointing.

This community looked clean and well maintained when we toured it. The person that took us on tour was nice. The location was not good for us and they did not have an opening when we were looking.

My sister really had her heart set on staying in Fairfax County and we had thought this community was going to be a good option for her. My sister didn't seem very impressed with the community. She felt that it was more assisted living feeling to it than what she would rather have. They have a community center with a pool offsite that the residents can go to.

I toured this community for my mother, and her needs. The tour went well overall, and everyone was very kind. All my questions were answered.

I have to say personally there is nothing wrong with my experience that I have had at this community. My apartment is very spacious and well maintained. However I have heard many things of other residents on how the management team does not follow up with any complaints that have been filled in the facility. There are residents breaking the rules and smoking in different ares of the establishment that they should not be.

I most definitely liked this property, very clean, well kept, very friendly and helpful staff. In addition to seeing a very nice apartment, was also told that adjacent to them is the senior center, lots of activities. I was very lucky that they had a vacancy, so my application is in and hope to hear from the nice staff soon. Thank you to APlaceFoMom and their staff, very helpful

A Place for Mom has scored Herndon Harbor House 2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
