Feels like home Very friendly staff Staff does take interest in residents Breakfast is decent- maybe a with a few more add on options as well as for them to be offered more often. Lunch is also decent, but would like more add on a la cart options Dinner is not that good at all. For the most part, it's sandwiches, that are in simple white bread with a piece of cheese and a few slices of meat. Otherwise it's a small salad if it is something you do not like. It's not really a 'dinner'. I wish they had more homemade desserts rather than canned and store bought. Also simply putting more meat and a choice of a bun, roll or variety of bread would help. It would also be good if we could get a sandwich or burger etc. or snack throughout the day and early night. There are pastries in lobby in the morning and fruit in afternoon in lobby, but it would be nice to have items from the kitchen be able to be made and had throughout the day. Also, if the elevators can be wiped down 3x a day simple: Mop floors, wipe down buttons inside and out and inner rails and doors Lots of fingers pushing buttons all day and night and looks used and unclean. Plus they would smell better with a simple Pine sol or fabuloso And a vacuuming by elevator doors a few times a day- simple and quick!:) It would be nice if they could clean up and restore the pool... At Harborside at Melbourne, the staff are very friendly and the nurses are attentive. Overall, the place is cheerful and mom adapted very quickly. My Mom is fussy about food, cleaning, and laundry and she's very happy with everything. I would recommend this facility to others.

Response from Harborside at Melbourne
May 25, 2023Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to share with us. We appreciate our residents, families and team members!
The activities were what I wanted most at this community - especially the scenic drives they would take twice a week. However since Harborside at Melbourne has recently changed ownership they have cut down the activities and nothing has really happened yet for our loved one.

Harborside is going through a transition with new management and staff shortages. Medical care is great, but they are very short staffed. Midnight shift CNA's very poor, but the other shifts are great, so it's very hard to rate. Just be sure to stay involved with your family member and stay actively engaged with the staff. Majority of the staff is excellent. Medical care from medical professionals affiliated with facility are very proactive.

Response from Harborside at Melbourne
May 25, 2023Thank you for your feedback! We appeciate the feedback.
I could not be happier with this community. I checked out quite a few, even visited twice at two other sites. Harborside at Melbourne is superior to any of the others I visited.

This was a nice community, it felt more independent living than what our loved one needed.
I stopped by the Grand Villa of Melbourne today to provide an update on my mom who is temporarily in Rehabilitation after a 3 week stay in the hospital. [name removed]the Director of Memory Care. She was so supportive and caring as there has just been one catastrophe after another. She patiently and supportively listened as I explained our situation and in the end provided some options. Grand Villa is just the absolute best. Thank you for all your help.

The friendliness of the staff members is fantastic they gave us a great big first impression, and there are always staff and residents walking about in the community. There are plenty of different activities to keep the residents engaged. The meal service is great, our loved one has gained some weight. The medication management is top notch, we have seen a big improvement in our loved ones care which has been incredible. We would recommend this community to other families.

One of the things my dad mentions quite often is how small the portions are at meal time and how unappetizing the food is. Since I haven't been allowed to be with him in the dinning room, I don't know if his comments are accurate. I know nowhere is perfect, but I think I was expecting a bit more

Really liked Grand Villa for respite care for my LO. He seemed to adjust quickly and the staff was very friendly and helpful with his specific needs. Also liked that it was a very tight knit community and there was one congregation area for everyone to socialize and do activities. Made it easier for him to make friends and be apart of the many things that were scheduled every day. He very much enjoyed the delicious food, all of the activities, and the staff that took care of him on a daily basis. Highly recommend.

I toured Grand Villa of Melbourne and they have a great staff, who were very friendly. I wasn't as impressed because they had some things under construction like the pool and whatnot. It seemed like there were a lot more residents sitting around and I just didn't feel comfortable that it would be a place I'd want my mom to be. There was nothing wrong with it, but I go by feelings a lot. Because it was previously a hotel, it felt like a hotel atmosphere. It was busier, but people were kind of sitting around and I didn't get to see activity or organized activity.
The Grand Villa community is very clean, the staff members have been excellent and the quality of care given to the residents is excellent. The meals and dining experience as been excellent as well. On the memory care side the activities are fantastic - they always have something going on like music entertainment, different games, and the staff are really encourage involvement between the residents. We have recommended this community already and we absolutely will continue to recommend it to families based on our experience.

Our family had an in person tour and this would of been our top choice but they did not have any rooms available at the time. The facility was clean, and the rooms were a little bit bigger. The residents all seemed engaged in different activities and the staff were friendly and helpful.
This was our 2nd choice. The room was not as big as we wanted. Too big of a community for my loved one.
The time had come for my mother to receive memory care assistance. After visiting, I chose Grand Villa of Melbourne. They are extremely supportive to the client and family. As I made arrangements for her room and to make it warm and inviting a hiccup arose regarding her bed and getting it put together. Although it is not part of their services they recognized the circumstances and pitched right in to help get everything set up despite being short staffed. They have gone above and beyond to help with the transition. Each time I visit I am more impressed with the staff and services. I am so thankful for Grand Villa and their wonderful and friendly staff. They are the best and I am completely comfortable with the care they are providing to my mother.

Our family had an in person tour and our loved one like how the room she would of had looked over the river, but we just did not see much activity going on. We didn't see residents interacting with each other, and there really isn't gathering places for people to hang out at.
Response from Harborside at Melbourne
February 8, 2022Hi Dawn: Thank you for this feedback! As you probably know, assisted living communities throughout the state were responding to the Omicron variant of COVID in January and as such, many of us were opting for much smaller group activities and one-on-one activities to better protect our residents and staff members. However, we are very proud of our activity programs and welcome you to schedule another visit or call to speak with our team members about the different ways we keep our residents engaged and connected with each other!
It has been fine for my loved one - it has been exactly what I was looking for at this point in her life. I like all of the activities they have, although I wish she would participate more. But she does use their in-house therapies - physical, occupational, and speech - and that has made a huge difference! Now she can walk over a mile and use her phone, which she wasn't able to do before. They've had some struggles with staffing, like every place right now, including the kitchen staff. And she has been less happy with the food than when she first moved in. But that's really the only issue. The medical staff has been really responsive. Their Covid notifications and actions are appropriate. If someone is looking for a place, especially after Covid, I think this is a good place. They have all the appropriate measures in place. The people seem to care about their residents. I don't feel like she's just being housed. I feel like they actually care about her. And it's a lively place. I looked at another place that was a a better price, but it was very gray and depressing in their décor. Grand Villa is just very bright and cheerful and lively, which I really like.
I think overall they provide excellent care. It's a beautiful place and kept up nicely. The staff are great. He loves the food. It's been a great place for him.
