Downey Retirement offered me peace of mind. I knew [name removed] was being cared for with people that cared for and also knew about the disease of Dementia/ALZHEIMER'S. I felt [name removed] was in the best place for both of us. I was able to visit whenever I wanted, even on Sundays once he was in transition. The head RN placed [name removed] in a private room for his last two weeks. I was able to stay the evenings with my dear husband. The entire staff of Downey Retirement gave me a sense of professionalism I was wanting for my husband's care. Downey Care did whatever they could to allow [name removed] to retain his dignity during his time there. A place that I knew would be safe to care for my loved one. A great place for my loved one

The facility is really clean and the rooms like an apt. It is recently renovated. The food looks good but I have not been able to try it. The staff is easy to contact but sometimes communication could be better. I would definitely recommend this community to others.

I was referred by a placing agency to tour the facility the person gave me the tour was pleasant but while on the tour I noticed that the doors were wide open while the care staff was assisting one of the patients there...I was not ok with this. I also noticed that they are remodeling but there is much to be done to the facility. The memory care unit was what brought me to the facility and I was not impressed. The dining area had plates of old food piled along the sink and there were flies. I had hopes for this facility but I was quickly let down. There is definitely room for improvement here.

Welcoming and safe community with friendly staff

She like it a lot there. On first appearances, it is a welcoming and warm facility. The staff are friendly, courteous, ready to help, and with smiles on their faces. They are ready to answer any question we may have. We chose this community because the location and convenience to hospital. I would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

Affordable but poor care

This community is economically affordable for some people. The whole make up of the place wasn't nice. The building was old but they said were planning to renovate it. The caregivers seemed lazy and had no passion for being there. The food wasn't that good, The building wasn't clean and had unpleasant odor.

We Love Downey Retirement!

Downey Retirement Center is great! They are personable, caring & take the time to know each of their residents. My dad says he's treated like royalty & he's very happy there. This is a great peace of mind for me, especially during this pandemic. I even received a personal call to inform me of the new procedures they put in place to ensure the safety of all residents during the pandemic. When I mentioned that my dad was probably going to be unhappy, the girl told me my dad was doing just fine. She knew exactly who my dad was, how he was doing & updated me on his current situation. That was so important to me. I receive updates & I'm always kept informed. My dad is quite capable in most situations but his condition will get worse. I love that as his level of care increases, his rates will not. If he needs to go to the bank, they will provide transportation. These are 2 things I did not find anywhere else! We love the staff too! You can tell they genuinely care about their residents & it's not just a paycheck for them. My dad was not happy about having to leave his home, but the staff at Downey Retirement made the transition so easy & comforting. Even during difficult times, my dad is very happy to be at Downey Retirement.

DON'T DO IT! STAY AWAY!

this place does not deserve not even a half of a star. We were referred by Kaiser for one of the places to tour. This place is across drug rehab place. My sister and I walked in and these guys across the way at the drug rehab place were cat calling and it was just uncomfortable. I see residents are outside and in the lobby. No lively entertainment or activity (everyone looks bored). The person who gave the tour was ok but while on the tour, you can smell urine in the elevator and going upstairs even worse. As we walked passed by, we saw staff assisting a resident with private care and the door was wide open. What happen to privacy? We decided to continue onto the next search.

Staff was nice. Place needs to be cleaned though. The memory care dinning area is just a room with folding tables. Very crowded because most of the residents are in wheel chairs. Not very inviting. The rooms are spacious. No TV can be used without cable connection due to the area not having a good reception.

We stopped by late morning to visit this facility. The floors & walls in the game and lounge were filthy. The rest of the place was not clean. The staff didn't seem so engaged with the seniors.

Just to big

This community is very large and there are 3 level's of care here. The staff did a very good job with my tour, they took their time showing me around and I was surprised at how large the memory care Unit was and that it had private rooms in it. I did feel that my mother would not be a good fit here and that it was too large for what I wanted for her.

My mother in law has had a heart attack while at this facility, she has had to go to emergency a couple of times to get things right, "she called 911" and after going to emergency she was transferred to a short term facilitie while on IV fluids, she would always come back within thirty days to keep her room. "Adam didn't like this" my wife had to go to Downey retirement to get her mom a change of clothes, the receptionist had my wife sign a paper before she could remove anything from the room. My wife being extremely worried about her mom being transferred after a heart attack she just signed the form, a week goes by and we get a phone call asking when are we coming to remove her furniture? Or do we want to donate it to Downey retirement? My wife was surprised and asked why ? Her mom was coming back within her thirty days. Adam told my wife the paper she had signed was one that says her mother wasn't coming back. Thinking this was just a simple paperwork error it would easily be fixed. Adam told my wife no your mom can't come back, I lose money when she's gone, this man is such a CHEESY OPERATER. If someone at Downey retirement sees this please contact me, Not Adam. An owner would be nice.
