When it comes to the meals and dining service this is based on my friend, who resides at Brookdale Northampton has reported to me. For the activities I can't really comment. My friend hasn't participated in anything yet, to my knowledge. I would recommend Brookdale to someone looking for a place that provides a more homey setting with friendly people. I know that my friend seems to have settled in nicely. One qualifier is the food. My friend is not a complainer, but in probing him about the meals, it's my sense that that's one area that could use some improvement. Otherwise, I'm relieved that my friend is safe and sound at Brookdale.... Read more

I know that there is a shortage of employees at times, but all facilities seem to have that same problem. Even so, they are very responsive with any and all questions or concerns. The food is very good. And the staff are very friendly and caring.

I would recommend to others , they have very good staff, nursing, and administrative staff. We picked this community, because of the location, value, and the staff were so inviting and friendly.

This was a nice community it was out our reach.
The community made this an easy process and explanation due to the fact the person who I spoke to has had their parent here. This is a community I would recommend to others for their loved ones. The communication with the staff is good and they are very understanding.

I was displeased with the service received, compared to the meeting with The Sales & Marketing Manager and The Director of the memory care floor. It was all a sales pitch. I don't feel that they, in my opinion, did all they could do. I think they were laxed and it was easy on some days to let my aunt lay in bed, not have a meal, and not save a meal for her if she wasn't out for meals. They would leave her in soiled Depends. I was told one day that the med tech doesn't take care of that and the aide was too busy so it'd have to be that way until they could get to her. I feel they gave me the turnaround when my aunt was sent to the hospital on whether or not she would be accepted back. They wanted more money, but there was no change in the care she was going to need. I was displeased with the fact that they were not willing to renegotiate money. They are looking for money for the 2 months she wasn't there because I didn't give them a 30 days notice. During that time they were not letting me know if she could be accepted back or not. I told them in letter form that I understood they held a bed, but they did not provide any care for the last week of April, May or June. Early on I requested a meeting with The Director of memory care to see what we could do moving forward when she came back from the hospital. They said yes we can meet, but they never scheduled anything with me. I followed up a second time and it was still never scheduled. I don't feel that the care and concern for the person you care about is really of their concern. Some of the staff were nice and treated her nice, but it wasn't what I thought it was going to be, so it was a disappointment. I was there as often as possible sometimes everyday of the week. Some days she hadn't eaten breakfast and I asked for a plate like I witnessed them save for other people. They said they didn't have any and they could bring her a piece of toast. I didn't understand some things and I also didn't feel like I should need to walk around to try and speak with The Director of memory care. I had to follow her around to speak with her. I thought I found a nice place that was somewhat local and had been around for a while, but it was a disappointment. They decided that if they were going to take her back, it was going to be [price removed] more per month and I did not dispute that amount. Although, the only change was she was on a Foley that was set to be removed soon and temporary insulin. She wasn't getting insulin when she entered and I get that, but they said because she would need additional care it'd be much more money if they took her back. I saw them feeding people who are laying down in wheelchairs, whereas my aunt could feed herself and had good mobility with some assistance. I didn't understand why that would be so much more; I didn't find that to be a huge detriment for a care facility that has nurses. If she were to come home with me then I'd have to do those things and it'd be ok for me to do it and I'm not a care professional. But when you're in a facility, they want to charge you for it and I was willing to pay it. When they sent her to the hospital they did so because of a potential UTI and/or dehydration, and said she'd be back within the same night. To my knowledge I never confirmed if she ever had either. It all just snowballed from there.

Response from Brookdale Northampton
August 26, 2022We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents and their families. Our management team has reviewed these concerns and we wish to assure you the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
I like the room. I was a little disappointed in how long in took them to get my loved one's care in order. But certain things are going much better now than they did on day one. We're paying for certain care needs. Rooms are supposed to be clean. Laundry is supposed to be done. I know they had problems with not enough staff, and they've had some Covid outbreaks. So we didn't get everything we needed when we needed it because they didn't have enough people to cover. Overall as far as the food, my loved one seems satisfied. I wish there were healthier options and more variety. The activities director is great, and the residents adore him. I've been surprised at nursing limitations - there are only certain things they will do, and other things we have to do on our own. I feel the need to be there more often because of that, although a couple of the nurses are absolutely wonderful. The admissions person I worked with in the beginning was very kind, cordial, and helpful. But some of the things that were promised to me aren't happening. It might take a while, but they do work with us. I'm hoping things will continue to get better.

August 17, 2022Thank you for choosing Brookdale and taking the time to share your feedback. We would welcome an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have and encourage you to contact our management team.
I liked this community but we had to make the decision as a family and when it came down to it there was another community that we ended up going with. The tour was great and we were able to see everything we needed to see and get the information that we needed.
This is a reasonably priced community and it fits the realm of this kind of community where there are a lot of peers there. It gives people the opportunity to have their own place and get involved with the community. They have activities like bingo, exercise and my mother in law seems to enjoy these things. Being in a group has made her want to do more.

We had a good tour experience with Brookdale, all of the staff were polite and professional. The facility was just too big, it is a high rise with many stories and it is in a busy area. We were just looking for something smaller with a more homey feel to it.
We chose Brookdale because when we toured it we just felt like my dad would fit in the best here. It seemed to be an active community with a lot of people around., The staff and residents all seemed very friendly and welcoming and it was also a place he could afford. My dad is very happy here, he says that he gets great care. I would definitely recommend them to others.

The community was okay but it was not really what I was looking for for my loved one and the location was further out. It was not a bad tour just not what I was really looking for.
We chose Brookdale Northampton because they offer memory care in the future. They also gave us 2 discounts and that made it much more affordable. The studio he is in is on the smaller side. The beginning was difficult for us because he moved in during covid and we did not know what exactly what was needed from us. Now that we have been here and everyone knows him, it has been much easier. The staff members here have gone out of their way to help my dad and I would recommend them.

We haven't been there since COVID, but days before our loved one moved in we were able to see the community and it was very clean. You were greeted with friendliness and cleanness when you entered this community. The staff always had smiles on their faces and was always active with the residents. Our loved one was in the memory care unit, and we received pictures from the staff of him eating, so we knew our loved one was well taken care of. We have no complaints about Brookdale, we cant say enough about community.

Staff is wonderful they are very caring. The care services they provide are excellent. The activities provide to the residents vary from exercising to doing puzzles, they even have a resident who teaches sign language twice a week. They have a great activities director. This community has a very warm and inviting feel to it, even pets are welcomed. It is very well kept, it looks great on the inside as well as very organized. We feel very fortune to have this place, the staff has handled the pandemic in such an excellent way. They have great communication whether it comes from the staff or the CEO. They keep us very informed on a day to day basis.

Very clean. Food - No complaints on breakfast, other then shorthanded and cold food sometimes. More complaints then raves for lunch & dinner. Entertainment very good. Daily activities are sparse. Most staff is dedicated. Staffing issues in all areas appear to be a ongoing problem. In speaking with other relatives in other communities, these issues appear to be symptomatic in this field. I think all you can do is check on your loved one as often as you can, especially if they are unable to communicate well on their own. Working with management to address other issues. I feel they are working towards a solution. I think it's important to feel your concerns are heard and addressed.

Our tour with [name removed] was wonderful! We loved everything we saw. The community was busy with activities and the residents looked happy and content. We loved the spacious and clean private apt./room. I think this will be just what we needed for my father.

This facility had a wonderful sense of community. The room choice was not what we were looking for but if a one room studio is what you are looking for I would highly recommend Brookdale.
