About the facility Anthology at the Plaza

Feel the elegance of senior living with a pop of color at Anthology at the Plaza. Beyond assisted living and memory care, the modern sunlight-filled apartments include a spacious shower with an open-concept kitchenette. Less than 5 miles from the Country Club Plaza and downtown Kansas City, the community is surrounded by a variety of restaurants, museums, and parks.

Emergency systems are built into each apartment and on-site caregivers are available around the clock. Caregivers trained in memory care are certified by the Alzheimer’s Association. Programs in the memory care neighborhood focus on engagement and stimulation. Chef-prepared meals are served in the modernized classy restaurant-style dining area. Seniors can explore the city through community outings to restaurants, shopping, or simply driving around.

Residents can play tennis on one of the many community courts. Brick archways overlook the city as sunlight beams onto the enclosed spacious balconies where seniors relax. The spa and salon feels like a whole new place, giving seniors that independence of going to the salon. Monthly calendars are jam packed with activities like train your brain, Wii games, painting, music, aromatherapy massages, and much more. Feel the rich luxury of hospitality and care at Anthology at the Plaza.

Overall pleased but with few improvements

They do well at 1. Listening to concerns and attempting to solve them 2. Friendliness 3. Keeping facility clean 4. Providing variety of food choices Improvements 1. Encourage residents to participate more 2. Keeping public/staff/freight elevators in working order so staff can assist residents quicker 3. More attention to general housekeeping in each individual apartment 4. Doing laundry as if it were your own. Not dumping everything together in one lump and overloading washer so nothing gets cleaned

Unethical

I have done walk tour's of multiple care homes. But when I went to Anthology the Director of Sales was very non chulant when we asked questions. The staff were on their cell phones. I seen a staff member getting off the elevator on their phone, while a resident was screaming for help. The sales person said 'oh that's just dementia '. So I decided to go on a solo tour on a Saturday evening. There was no one at the the door to let me in, so I waited for 10 minutes. I do not like the appearance, so we declined to move forward.

Not worth the price

I visited my mother, who has been living there for the past month, in the community today (Sunday). In the main lobby, the personnel were swearing. My mother had to wait more than an hour to obtain a hamburger from the kitchen. It took thirty minutes for the charge nurse to arrive after I called for her. The net result is that we are already preparing to have our mother removed. The cuisine is abhorrent. The person who gave us the initial tour led us to a room that was barely clean. In addition, the surroundings is simply unclean. The hallways are accessible from the parking lot. I don't suggest a move in.

Issues all the time!!

I had a loved one here and it was nothing but issues! The staff turnover is dramatic and there is No training for the new ones. Dept Heads turn over a lot as well. Make sure you put a camera in the room so you really know what is going on. They would forget to get them for meals. Help to get ready for bed…. The list goes on and on. The only thing that changes is the amount they charge keeps going up dramatically!!!

No structure

Our family member has lived here for a few months. I can honestly say that It's no structure. It takes months for the maintenance department to fix anything, and the administrator is always full of excuses.

Tour experience

We toured with Anthology at the Plaza and I really liked this facility. The staff were all extremely responsive and willing to help out wherever we needed them to. The reason we did not choose this facility was because there was no accessible green space which was really important to us. Also - his room would have looking out to a garage and that was less than desirable. The atmosphere did feel a little more cold and sterile. At some times I wish we would have chosen this facility due to the location and the amount of health issues my loved one has had, it is close to hospitals.

My tour review

I liked this community also. It seemed to be very attentive and a clean and comfortable environment. They seemed like they tried to accommodate also. The only thing is my loved one had mild dementia and the rooms were bigger and my loved one struggled with walking. my loved one just needed a smaller space

Room for excellence, just not there yet.

It's a beautiful property, but they just don't have their service levels where they need to be yet. They need to work on their nursing staffing, and not having so much turnover. But they're brand new, so we're trying to give them some leeway. They have a new director, and she's working on these things. I think it's going to be a great property within the next six months.

A wonderful place!

Two months ago we moved my brother to assisted living at Anthology of the Plaza from his home of over fifty years. He was resistant and I was anxious. Anthology was brand new with no track record. We soon learned there was nothing to worry about. This is a beautiful, state of the art facility located in a vibrant commercial and cultural part of Kansas City. A review of the monthly activities calendar was enough to assure me that my brother would be fully occupied with an abundance of mind-stretching and body-strengthening exercises designed to meet each resident’s needs. Above all it’s the staff at Anthology that makes this place so special. Not only are they energetic and superbly credentialed but also they are warm, caring people, who are never too busy to stop and chat with a resident or drop by the daily Happy Hour where residents gather with family and friends to tell of their day’s adventures or those of days gone by. It didn’t take long for my brother to settle in and become part of “the gang” as the residents like to call themselves. He has taken the greatest pleasure in decorating his apartment that glows with natural light and views of the Plaza. During my last visit we spent the day careening around Target picking up a few finishing touches (well maybe more than a few). On the way back, as we approached Anthology, he smiled at me and said, “I’m almost home!”
