Things are going well for us at Addington Place. There have been a few bumps as my loved one with dementia gets adjusted, but that's to be expected. The staff have all been very nice, helpful, and forthcoming. They call me if there are any issues. When I visit on the weekends, I always see activities going on for those who want to participate. We toured with Addington Place of Prairie Village and it was great! The facility was absolutely beautiful and everyone was very nice. The only downfall was the price, it was way too expensive and we could not afford it. My loved one also needed 24 hour care.
I toured Addington Place of Prairie Village. When I took the tour there were residents that were in a group session, but none of them looked engaged in the activity. My dad wouldn't have been able to use his electric chair, because the hallways were too narrow. The rooms were just okay; but the community was dated and did not have an on-site rehab facility. The location was also not ideal nor accessible for me, personally.
I am positive about this community. It is a good place but just like with all places at this time there is a problem with staffing. I would take this in to consideration. The staff that are there are awesome.

I would highly recommend the community to others. Especially for those that need supervision and can't take care of themselves. This is perfect for those who still want their independence as well. The food has been really good for my loved one.

During our loved ones stay, they staff members were always really involved with the residents throughout the day. There were activities constantly going on, they did a great job making our family including. Overall it just had a family setting to it.

It's a small, well-run community. My loved one likes it. I just think there could be more targeted care for some of her issues. The staff seem very friendly and very caring towards my loved one. She always speaks highly of the staff. The food that I tried was good. And I've seen the food at other times. It looks good and seems like they offer a diverse menu. The facility overall is very clean. The state of my loved one's room is probably more related to her and her own issues. For activities, it seems like they have the same thing every day, which could be related to Covid. I just think they could get more creative and interactive with their activities.

The food is terrible, there is a shortage of staff and they are not always friendly. The room sizes are good, and the facility is clean and well taken care of. I would not recommend this community to others

I feel the facility did not take care of my mother as they should. I had to hire additional care for her and that cost us $5000.00 more. I would not recommend this facility to anyone, They did not communicate and did things after we told them not to. The staff was very rude and tried to charge us for an extra month.

We looked at 12 different facilities but we ended up choosing Addington Place of Prairie Village because of the location, I had a friend who worked at the facility and she had good things to say, and the size of the apartment was large, but the facility smaller. She is in a one bedroom apartment and it is very spacious. The best part about this community so far has been the staff members, they have gone above and beyond to help our family while at the same time keeping the residents safe. I would recommend to others.

It is a perfect place. We have had a great experience. The food is good. The room sizes and layout of the community are good. They do not have a lot of outdoor space. The location was a big factor for us.

After visiting several assisted living facilities in a search to find the right fit for our parents, we decided on Addington Place of Prairie Village. We like the layout of the building, and having everyone on the same floor is a plus. The hallways are spacious, and we love the friendly staff members, who seem to know everyone’s name. We especially liked the park-like atmosphere of the grounds, with a walking trail all the way around the facility. Our parents appreciate having access to courtyards if they want to be outside. It was clear that a lot of residents enjoy living there. The living suites are a nice size and it did not have the feel of a dorm room. They have communal dining, and can also offer private family dining. Therapies, Hair Salon, and Mani/Pedi services are all done within the facility. It’s a lovely facility with caring and attentive staff.

The facility was very nice. The rooms were updated and modern. It flt like a community. Unfortunately, they do not accept medicaid, which will make this a tough choice for us.

Currently searching for a new place for my father. He has been neglected, left sitting up in a wheelchair all night without so much as anyone checking on him. Everything the marketer promised us turned out to be untrue. The director does nothing but promise to look into things and nothing ever comes of that. The food is SO BAD. Medical issues have been overlooked. Our overall experience has been extremely unsatisfactory.

My Mother [name removed] was a short term resident of Addington and we were very pleased with the staff and facilities. They were very good about ongoing contact with us concerning her health and showed true caring for her. The Director was most helpful and staff were open to what they were capable of doing and suggestions for more intensive care. Our experience as a family is very positive with regards to Addington Place in Prairie Village and do recommend the facility.

Our dear mother spent many wonderful days at Addington Place. The staff, the food, the facilities were all the best anyone could ask for. I highly would suggest a tour of this incredible facility if you are looking for new home for an aging parent or friend.

Our family member has lived in AP 1 1/2 yrs. Initially, we were very pleased with the management & employees. Then the dynamics began to change among with management & employee retention. It became apparent that Cedarhurst Living was all about profitability, not the residents best interest. Appliances such as ice makers never repaired or replaced for over 18 mos. & counting. Washing machines use the cheapest soap & sat uninstalled in a hallway for 3wks., placing a burden on staff needing to do laundry. While on the topic of laundry, my family member' sheets don't get changed & laundered unless I do it. Nor does her room get cleaned. We paid to have those services big $$$. I was told by staff, "what housekeeping?" Recently, 4 employees were working covering 70 residents. I stayed to assist the staff & returned the following 2 evenings because I cared. Staff are reprimanded for saying to family members they are understaffed. There are some wonderful caring employees that are not appreciated. Promises are made to family members, but not kept. Management turns a "blind eye" to CNA's concerns/suggestions regarding residents. Bottom line: $$$$ fill the facility with residents, lower pay, spend the minimum on residents & maintaining the place.

Hit or miss! During the two years my father has lived here, there have been multiple management turnovers. The ownership changed. The name changed from Benton House to Addington Place (about the same time a new Benton House opened across town, advertising to residents and their families), and there have been at least five different managers in charge, with similar turnover in the nursing and activities staff. Each new manager brings in ideas and changes, but nothing seems to last. Overall, things have worked out fine and my father is comfortable, but the nature of the community and the quality of care is dependent on the management and staff, and with the constant turnover and change the experience and be very inconsistent.

Response from Addington Place of Prairie Village
July 16, 2018Cal Gal, we truly appreciate your honest feedback. We are happy to hear that your dad is comfortable and happy at Prairie Village! Nonetheless, it is still disappointing to hear that your experience was anything less than great. Unfortunately, when we first took over turnover did occur, however our Executive Director, Kent Mcgeeney, has been with us almost a year and our Director of Nursing, Kelly Nolan, has been with us over a year. Both playing an essential role in leading the community as we strive to provide the highest quality care and standards for our residents and their families. We hope you will give us an opportunity to discuss this further with you. Please reach out to us at [removed] at your earliest convenience to discuss how we can turn your experience into a positive one.
