A Nice Place to Live
I really like the staff, but I'm not sure about the administration. Some of the things they do /rules don't make any sense for the residents. The staff that care for my mom are fantastic. Staff is great. Food is 50/50. Activities are good but could be better.

Our Family experience
Loved the facility and staff but admin was not forthcoming that they could and would refuse to take our mom back in facility after a fall. Not always the cleanest. Constant water leak in ceiling in hall, water pressure issues. The staff was very friendly. Npn was amazing. Staff could be lazy. Staffing issues happened frequently. The food was ok but kitchen never sent enough for entire population in memory care. Didn't promote liquid intake and had multiple uti and dehydration. For the amount of money spent expected better.

Addington Place is a good place - but there is room for improvement
The care staff are excellent; they're really good at taking care of everyone and I really like that. I'm not very thrilled with the activities people and the food. But I do feel if resident cause a stink a little bit, they can get that taken care of. We have a unique situation, my mom came from a big assisted living community that was very fancy, had so many things going on, and really good food. So it is hard for her to like the food at this place. My mom and a couple other women told the new director that the food is horrible and they've tried to correct it, but it hasn't been the best. My mom loves her apartment; she has the bigger premium one, and I like it as well. There's enough storage space & room, a nice big bathroom, a bedroom that's a good size, a living room, and a small kitchen. I feel very comfortable having my mom there.

Our Experience
Don't go there. The response from call lights has been long. My loved ones things have came up missing from his room. Housekeeping comes once a week. Laundry is picked up regularly. This is all on one floor. The residents are allowed to have pets. Transportation is provided for doctors appointments as well as outings. They need to improve their meals. The big meal is lunch and no dinner just a snack like chicken nuggets. Another time was a small bowl of soup and piece of bread. That was it. No salads, no fresh fruits. Management is pretty poor. It was just purchased by another company. Hopefully this changes.

We loved Addington Place. I wish we would have gone with this facility in the first place. Our loved one had a bad experience at the place we chose and we wanted to move him here, but he decided to get home care services instead. It seems like a great place.

Excellent care
We chose Addington Place of Lee's Summit at the time because of the overall feel that I had when I toured the facility. We are very happy with it. Everyone is super caring and they want to do everything they can to make sure residents are comfortable and happy. Both of my parents are here, my dad is in memory care and my mom is in assisted living. They help my folks to have meals together and visit with each other. Yesterday was their 69th wedding anniversary and I took flowers and cards up there and they made sure they were delivered and they had a dinner together and the staff sang to them and made them a special desert. They do have a portal where they let you know what activities they have participated in and they post pictures on that and respond to comments which is helpful. I would definitely recommend to others.

My families experience
The friendliness of the staff members varied from time to time, the workers during the day and night time staff were fantastic, but the management was not good. Our loved one was in the memory care during the day so there wasn't really any activities, but from our understanding the assisted living had a pretty good program for activities. The food would be a three out of five, they did seem to have fairly well balanced meals. One criticism we did have was the iceberg lettuce they served for every salad, that had no nutritional value, as well as the canned vegetables. For the memory care residents they sometimes were given difficult food items to eat. Our loved one was in there for only day care, and we were able to see the rooms and they were very nice. The facility and layout is gorgeous it is really just a beautiful facility.

Don't put your loved one here
Please think twice about putting your loved in the memory care unit here! We had my mom in here for 7 months and should have moved her long ago. Addington Place of Lees Summit is very understaffed. They hire only the minimum required patient to staff ratio which is simply not enough for memory care. The facility is dirty! The furniture in the common area is heavily soiled. When we visited we NEVER sat on it. It's gross. The carpet is equally bad!. They never cleaned my mom's room. Our family always had to do it, even the bathrooms. They leave dirty, urine soaked laundry in the rooms for days and the smell is sickening. Their website is very misleading with claims of a "highly trained staff" ! Absolutely not true. We've moved my mom out of there and are so glad we did! Her new doctor in her new place was shocked at how much medication they had mom on! They literally kept her drugged 24 hours a day! We are now working with removing some of the meds and weaning her off of others. They were crushing pills and feeding to mom in applesauce that were medications which NEVER should be crushed! They had her on medications that were not meant for anyone over the age of 65. Mom is 85. PLEASE don't trust this place for your loved one!!

Not for Dementia - facility not what it seems
Never send a relative to the Memory Care Unit of Addington Place of Lee Summit. My brother was in this facility for 7 months and neglected. Due to shortage of staff (per the executive directors comments), he would go almost a week with no shower or change of soiled clothing (12 days one time). Money, shoes, clothing disappeared. His 90 year old mother would attempt to help him change his clothing as he would have his jeans on backwards, soiled clothing, shoes on wrong feet, feet not in shoes all the way (causing falls), and she even vacuumed the floor at times. We would have to ask to have his bathroom clean as this activity was ignored. We would find medication in his room, even though we were told they observe residents taking their medication. We found a pill cup with cleaning solution left on his vanity. Bedding would be stripped to be washed and then no sheets put on the bed for 3-4 days. We were told he needed a wheelchair as he had fallen - the wheelchair mysteriously ended up in the assisted living area being used as community property and they did not know how it got there or whose it was, even though his name was in big letters on the back. Staff did not know how to give showers properly. In a meeting with the exective director and the director of nursing, I was told “the family was too demanding, we do not have the staff to give a shower when we felt like it”. At the same time the executive director told the director of nursing that “we need to get dementia training for our staff”. Due to the fact they do not know how to handle dementia patients or provide proper care, I suggest not placing your family member here and look elsewhere. This is not the place - the facility may look nice on the outside, but the inside is a different story.

Not Good For Dementia
I’ve thought a long time, since I moved my husband out of memory care unit at Addington Place in Lee’s Summit at the beginning of October 2017, about how to fairly rate the memory unit. My husband had vascular dementia. He had progressed to a point that he didn’t know who I was at times and became aggressive. They told me they could take good care of him as the disease continued. This was not true. They don’t have a nurse on site at night and the aids called in the middle of the night over everything. They did not know how to redirect him when he was agitated. They definitely don’t have the resources as mobility and eating become a problem with this terrible disease. My husband’s wedding ring was “lost” and never found. Their accounting was such a mess that I had to go and show them how they were trying to overcharge me by $1250. I would not recommend Addington for ANY one with dementia. I will always be so sad that I put my husband in this place.

Probably will be our choice. It was massive (the hall ways). People seemed pleasant. Too bad small pets are not allowed. Sadly we believe the nursing home will be our eventual transition. Mom knows so many in this facility, it may be her preference over all. It feels like a community to her.

The best in Lee's Summit.
SO much better than The Carlyle, where I mistakenly first moved my stepdad. That place was dirty, had very poor food, allowed mentally-ill residents to live there endangering other residents, and did not deliver on its promise of after-hours care. In contrast, Addington Place is upbeat, clean as a whistle, and caters to my stepdad like he's a king. He LOVES it here, and says he wishes we'd found Addington Place sooner. I whole-heartedly agree.
