John Knox Village a Good Place to Live

I would recommend John Knox Village to others for their loved ones. There is a lot of inclusive items for the residents to use. It feels like a little town because everything is right there, except groceries. There is a beauty salon on site, a dining room, and more. My loved one enjoys bingo, exercises, puzzles, and more for activities. The staff seem friendly when passing in the hallways.

Would definitely recommend it, the staff is wonderful

John Knox Village made it so easy to pick this community for our loved one. On our tour they had so much patience with us and all the question's we had. The people were so nice and have continued to be so nice all the way from the management team to the maintenance team. It is also a good value for everything our loved one has.

Tour of John Knox Village

I really liked the apartments here, they were very roomy. They seemed to offer a lot of great amenities and have a swimming pool. The location was just not the right fit for me.

John Knox has gone downhill.

We had loved ones here previously and were happy with them. But not this time. My loved one was there for a short hospice respite stay. I felt like she was left alone a lot. It was hard for me because she just laid there, which maybe that needed to happen. But I wasn't happy with them and decided to move her to a different place, where she is now up and eating and moving around. I felt like she was just declining at John Knox. And I didn't care for the hospice service that they recommended, especially now that we've experienced better elsewhere.

Highly recommend

We chose John Knox Village because I was in a desperate situation when dad was getting out of the hospital. The facility came recommended to me so we went to check them out and they had some deals going on that made it the perfect price for him. The apartment sizes here are great, his set up could not be better. They offer plenty of activities for the residents and I hope he will start getting more involved with those. I would give the staff higher than a 5 if I could, they are just wonderful and are so nice to the residents and do a great job catering to their needs. I would definitely recommend to others looking.

Our tour experience

Our family had an in person tour, and we really loved John Knox community. The only reason we chose to go with another community was the call back communication. We were in a time crunch with our loved one and the other community called us very consistently to check in, whereas I was constantly playing phone tag with the assisted living team here. However, the director on the independent living side was incredible, she was on top of everything during our tour.

Independent Living at John Knox is Very Good

I would tell others to look into independent living. It is nice to have family nearby. The rent includes housekeeping and a meal credit. The restaurant is on premises. They have elevators available for the residents.

A good place to stay

I moved in a year ago, so I was able to get involved in some activities before the virus came along, they had plenty of activities. They are currently building some new apartments that will be two bedrooms, but some of the other ones I have seen are nice size, they have plenty of different sizes to choose from. I have a dog and I love walking him by the lake and golf course, I have actually made some friends this way. Overall, I would recommend this facility to others who are looking.

It’s been so wonderful to have you with us this past year. While most of your time at JKV has been anything but normal, we love to hear you and your pup are taking advantage of our spacious campus, and have had opportunities to safely meet some of your amazing neighbors. Thank you so much for your recommendation, and we’re optimistic the New Year will bring brighter days. Stay safe and let us know if you need any additional support.

Would recommend this community

Since COVID there are no activities, beforehand there was a lot. There was music and a bunch of other things they had to offer. I really like my apartment, it is well designed. The carpeting is brand new, I have a beautiful sun room with a balcony that is enclosed with windows that open. In the winter time it is heated and air conditioned in the summer. It looks out over a beautiful park. The bedroom and living room are very spacious, it has a very nice kitchenette, and the largest bathroom i have ever had.

Response from John Knox Village

We’re delighted you’re enjoying your apartment so much, Jack, and that you find it to be warm, comfortable and spacious. While you and your neighbors have been spending increased time in your homes in recent months, we hope it won’t be long before we can safely and responsibly reopen many of our beloved activities and amenities. Until then, please let us know if there’s anything we can do to continue to best support you. Thank you for taking a few minutes to share your experience with us.

I love living at John Knox Village

This is one of the top five places someone should look at depending on what level of care you are looking for. They have 5 restaurants, so there is a lot to choose from. They are very accommodating. There is a wide variety of floor plans some include garages. I live in a duplex. This is a pet-friendly community and it is very soundproof. You can just rent or buy-in. We also have a golf course, a bowling alley, and a health club with trainers and classes. They have lots of other entertainment and classes on a variety of topics. During the pandemic, they are showing the class on their tv channel. They are doing a good job keeping us involved and busy.

Thank you for such an uplifting review, Jan. We’re delighted to hear you’re satisfied with your duplex, and the wide range of entertainment, dining and other amenities JKV residents have access to. We’ve certainly had to adjust our offerings in recent months, but are just as committed to your comfort and well-being. We hope it won’t be long before we can enjoy our entire campus together again. Until then, don’t hesitate to let us know if we can do anything to best support you and your neighbors.

A great decison.

It is really hard with the virus. There are so many activities that we moved here for that are on hold. The size of the apartment is not that important. You are not in your unit that much because there is so much to do. People are so friendly and welcoming. The food is good and there are lots of options. We moved here as my husband was recovering from a stroke. He is doing so much better, using the pool and exercise room. He does not even have to leave the building to take advantage of all the amenities. He has gained feeling in the affected leg and doing great.

Response from John Knox Village

June 29, 2020

We’re so pleased to learn of your husband’s improvement since your move to JKV, Carol. We hope he continues to find our on-site programs and amenities to be an aid in his recovery. We understand how difficult these last few months have been, and the sacrifice you and your neighbors have made for the safety of our community. We hope it won’t be long before you both can enjoy the full JKV experience. Until then, stay safe and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or requests.

We want to live there too.

John Knox Village is the best place in the area as far as we are concerned. My mom has a cottage which is working out well for her. My mom likes the food. My mom has a dog and like the set up. They have a lot of great things available, I just can't wait for the quarantine to be lifted so they can enjoy them.

Response from John Knox Village

June 29, 2020

We’re delighted your mother and her canine companion are so satisfied with their cottage and the overall lifestyle at JKV, Juanita. We’re so appreciative of the support and cooperation residents have shown during these last few months. We know how challenging it’s been for them and their loved ones, and we hope to be in a position to safely and responsibly welcome you and other visitors back in the near future. Thank you for such kind feedback, and please let us know if there’s anything you or your mother need in the meantime.

Be careful at John Knox if you want “out” during the first year.

We recently visited John Knox considering a house or villa. One of our concerns was having flexibility if we did not like living in a retirement community. Some CCRC’s in the Kansas City area have a policy that you get 100% of the entrance fee back if you move out within 6 months. Not John Knox. Their policy is that if you move out during the first year you get 85% of the entrance fee back. But, that 85% does not apply to the second person fee or the garage fee—you get none of that back. John Knox has many different plans: the four basic are (1) 0-50—you get 0 back if you continue to live there and a 50% reduction in higher need fees, such as assisted living, etc.; (2) 50-50; (3) 80-50 and (4) 80-20. The figures for one specific option—a house of 1,090 sq. ft.—are: 0-50 Entrance fee = $215,851 Amount John Knox keeps = $71,180 % kept = 33.0% 50-50 Entrance fee = $300,954 Amount John Knox keeps = $83,945 % kept = 27.9% 80-50 Entrance fee = $386,053 Amount John Knox keeps = $96,710 % kept = 25.1% 80-20 Entrance fee = $310,098 Amount John Knox keeps = $75,584 % kept = 24.4% While I have not run figures on other options at John Knox, we decided this was very steep—we would lose 25% to 33% of the entrance fee if we moved out of John Knox within the first year. Beware!

John Knox Village - the best independent living campus in greater kanas city area

Wonderful place to live. I have a lovely 0ne bedroom apartment - 732 sq feet with stove dishwasher refrigerator. I’m just a minute from the elevator down to Laundry facilities. Bus transportation 7 am to 9 pm Monday to Saturday - Sunday 9 to 2. Made new friends easily and many activities to look forward to almost every day. Comparing my last independent living apartment to John Knox this apartment is twice the size, $500 less and housekeeping is provided plus laundry of linens.
