Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience. We’re so glad to hear that our team has made a positive impact during your loved one’s transition into our community. Moving into a new home can be challenging, and our staff works hard to provide not only quality care but also the empathy and encouragement families need during that time. Your feedback means a great deal to us and will be shared with our team. If there's ever anything we can do to support your family further, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Warm regards, The Esther at Riverbend Team

Review for The Esther at Riverbend
My client required a higher level of care upon moving into this facility than what they were equipped to provide, but being newly opened and eager to fill their rooms they accepted her as a resident regardless. Unfortunately, the promised services fell short. For instance, housekeeping and laundry, which were advertised as weekly services, were inconsistently delivered. Although my client paid a premium for laundry assistance, it was rarely completed, forcing her to manage it herself, which ultimately contributed to her falling. Communication with her primary care physician was also lacking; they failed to report her falls adequately. Additionally, essential wound care orders were not addressed, and a discontinued medication continued to be administered despite multiple discussions about the issue. This particular medication, which cost around $[removed] per month, was unaffordable for her. Out of concern for the quality of care, I installed cameras in her room and discovered the resident coordinator and another staff member rummaging through her belongings in the middle of the night. They claimed to be searching for keys that had been missing for two months, which had already been replaced. We were informed that the facility offered off-site activities, but these were never fulfilled. My client also required assistance with bathing, which was infrequently provided. While the facility is newly built and visually appealing, the actual care provided did not align with what was promised or paid for. There are numerous other concerns I could detail, but it is clear that the level of care falls significantly short of expectations.

May 29, 2025
Hi Julie, Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience at The Esther at Riverbend did not meet your expectations. While this resident's time in our community was prior to the current leadership team, we understand how important it is for families, friends, and advocates to feel heard and supported. Providing compassionate, reliable care to our residents is our top priority, and we regret that you feel we fell short in your case. Our team made several efforts to communicate directly with the resident’s legal Power of Attorney, who resides overseas, but responses were limited. While we appreciate your advocacy, we were unable to obtain the documentation needed to grant access to private health and care information. We understand your concerns regarding personal belongings and care services, and while we cannot speak to every detail publicly, we are always open to connecting offline to discuss any outstanding issues and ensure a respectful and productive dialogue. Please feel free to reach out to our Executive Director at 541-937-7100 if you would like to continue the conversation. You can also reach our home office team at connect@onelifeseniorliving.com Sincerely, The Esther at Riverbend Team

There really is now place like Home. But The Esther is as good as it gets.
When Dad got COVID 4 days prior turning 100 yrs. old he lost the strength in his legs and after rehab we felt he needed some way to keep a quality of living that we couldn't give him at home. He wasn't thrilled at first and is somewhat set in his ways (you can imagine). But the staff and "famaily" at the Esther have treated him like a king. They have taken care of his ongoing medical needs, social desires, and our requests for him. The folks at the Esther are upbeat and helpful anytime we arrive to visit and they take Dad to his many appointments for medical needs. We couldn't ask for much more from folks there and would recommend starting out searching at the Esther THANK YOU ALL [name removed]

Took my 1st tour about a year ago. No ramp to get in. 2nd tour month later and had conversations re: Medicaid contracts. The Esther stated that they were applying for their Medicaid Contracts within 6 months. I paid my $[removed] deposit and picked my choice of room. Fast forward ... NO INTENTION OF CARRYING OR APPLYING FOR MEDICAID CONTRACTS. FACILITY OPENED UP OVER 1 YEAR LATER. DEPOSIT AND RENTAL COSTS INCREASED BEFORE THEY ALLOWED TO MOVE IN. BASIC STUDIO COSTS $[removed]. Avoid this bait and switch method of operation!!!!!!!!!

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Oregon regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Oregon regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored The Esther at Riverbend 7.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
