Residential Care Home
I have never thought that I would want to be in an assisted living facility but Astoria has changed my mind. The staff is very caring and never too busy to stop and chat or give a hug. The food is wonderful and the outings are always fun. Today, we went to Chicken Ranch in Jamestown for a a lovely ride and lunch. There is always something going on at Astoria. Bingo, Happy Hour, musical entertainment and much more. It's a nice place to be . . . safe, comfortable and you couldn't ask for nicer people running it. I am very glad that I am here.
Read moreMy mom is ecstatic and that is what really matters. She is incredibly happy there so overall I'm really satisfied too. There was only one person that I'm not crazy about but he's not in a position of direct care he's more of a tour guide. His communication skills aren't the best as far as follow up. They have a ton of activities. There are 3 or 4 things going every single day which is great because they have a broad base of activities but they might have one or tow people show up so sometimes I think they may need to scale them back. Every time I call my mom she's not in her room so I guess that's a good thing. The food is really amazing.
Read moreI would say keep looking. My mom did not have a good experience, but others that we talked to did. Given what's available in the area, I would say they're the best bet. The public areas are very clean, but the private rooms are less so. They did okay with the care, but they just kept adding costs on to everything, and that got very frustrating for me. The staff are very nice. The food was good. But the activities were geared more toward more fully abled people who aren't quite reedy for assisted living yet.
