Assisted living communities provide organized living communities and assistance for people who may need support with things such as self-administering medication or mobility. The services provided often include support with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under observation and assessment. In some instances, communities may offer hospice, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $66,000 . Washington maintains a number of provisions related to this kind of community. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) supervises this type of community. The maximum occupancy is 2 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration provided through nurse delegation, resident self-administration of medication, and medication administration. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as mental illness, significant known behaviors or symptoms that may cause concern or require special care, level of personal care needs, and activities and service preferences. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include promote each resident’s health, safety, and well-being consistent with the resident negotiated care plan, communities choose to provide certain health support services, assistance with ADLs, and general responsibility for each resident. Staff members obtain training in a variety of subjects. These include: nurse delegation and core diabetes, specialty training, First-aid and CPR, and basic training (70 hours). Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program–Community Options Program Entry System (COPES).This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast , a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals, practitioner, and nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible.
