Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and health care to your loved one who might require help with things such as preparing meals or showering. Assisted living communities frequently provide assistance with transit and appointments, opportunities for leisurely activity, and assistance with daily activities. In select instances, communities may offer hospice, skilled nursing care, or Alzheimer’s care. Oregon has specific regulations associated with this type of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight supervises this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as mental health evaluation, risk indicator assessment, ADLs test, and physical health exam. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assist psychosocial wellbeing, maximize physical functioning, 24-hour emergency care service, and transportation services. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. Staff must obtain training in a number of areas. These include: abuse and reporting requirements, emergency procedures, fire safety, and infection control. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid.
