Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment style housing and social events as well as individual care. Assisted living communities commonly provide care supervision, support with the activities of daily life, and assistance with appointments and transit. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment by an RN of a prospective resident’s physical and cognitive needs and communities must propose a service agreement or service plan prior to the date on which the prospective resident executes a contract or the date on which he or she moves in, whichever is earlier. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include the instructions must be written, administration of medications, and the person must demonstrate competence in following the instructions.
