Assisted living communities offer apartment style housing and social events as well as personalized support. Assisted living communities commonly provide opportunities for social activity, aid with daily activities, and assistance with appointments and transit. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide hospice, respite, or skilled nursing. The annual median cost for a private room is around $111,508 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $100,481 . The state of Michigan has specific rules related to this kind of community. The Department of Human Services licenses governs this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include reminding resident of important activities to be carried out, guidance, assisting a resident to keep appointments, and supervised personal care. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide medical nutrition therapy if prescribed by a licensed health care professional, three daily meals and snacks must be provided, and Food must be prepared in accordance with the recommended daily dietary allowances of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 21. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications, and medication supervision and administration. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as service plan identifies the individual’s need for services, service plan identifies the individual’s specific needs for care, The service plan must be updated annually and following a significant change in health status, and A comprehensive written assessment that that describes prescribed treatments and medications that must be provided to the community prior to admission. Staff members obtain training in a number of subjects. These areas include safety and fire prevention, staff training program based on the residents’ service plans, personal care, and containment of infectious disease.
