An assisted living community is a residential living community which administers support, care, and supervision to independent seniors who do not need skilled nursing care. The services provided often include help with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide “aging in place”, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. In Kansas, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $53,670 . Kansas has a number of provisions related to this type of community. The Secretary of Aging and Disability Services certifies this community type. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include other services needed to support residents’ health and safety, personal care, housekeeping, and medical. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as The agreement describes the parties responsible for payment when services are provides by an outside agency, If the resident requires health care services, a licensed nurse must develop a health care service plan, The agreement describes the service provider, and The negotiated service agreement is reviewed at least annually or when requested. These provisions include medication regimens are reviewed each time the resident experiences a significant change in condition, medication regimens are reviewed at least quarterly, and self-administer medications.
