An assisted living community is a residential living community which administers support, care, and supervision to independent seniors who do not need skilled nursing care. The services provided often include help with activities of daily living. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide “aging in place”, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. In Kansas, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $53,670 . Kansas has a number of provisions related to this type of community. The Secretary of Aging and Disability Services certifies this community type. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met.
