Assisted Living

Assisted living communities provide organized living communities and aid for your loved one who might need a helping hand with everyday activities such as mobility or preparing meals. The services provided often include support with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under supervision and assessment. In certain cases, communities may offer respite, hospice, or continuing care. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 49,200. Indiana has specific standards associated with this kind of community. Indiana State Department of Health regulates this type of community. communities must consider residents’ personal preference meals may temporarily be delivered to the resident’s room. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three meals a day, communities must consider residents’ ethnic preferences, meals must provide a balanced distribution of the daily nutritional requirements, and communities must meet daily dietary requirements and requests. Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include preparation of prescribed medications, resident must be observed for effects of medications and undesirable effects must be documented and the resident’s physician notified, and distribution of prescribed medications. Staff must receive training in a variety of fields. These include: resident’s rights, emergency procedures, detailed review of the appropriate job description, and including evacuation procedures. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as community will identify scope of care based on evaluation, a negotiated risk plan will be established, evaluation must be updated at least semi-annually or when a significant change in condition occurs, and A comprehensive assessment. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include scheduled transportation for community-based activities, activities and programs appropriate to residents’ abilities and interests, comprehensive nursing care, and a nursing diagnosis.
