Assisted living communities provide residential communities and assistance to your loved one who may require a helping hand with things such as taking medication or mobility. Assisted living communities commonly provide aid with the activities of daily life, chances for organized activity, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer “aging in place”, respite, or hospice. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this community type. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include medication reminders, non-medical services, laundry, and medication administration. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, and A comprehensive assessment. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include observing the resident, supervision of self-administered medications, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications. Staff must obtain training in a number of fields. These include: philosophy and goals, residents’ need and service plans, abuse, and infection control.
