Assisted living communities provide residential communities and aid for people who need help with things such as dressing or mobility. Assisted living communities often provide help with transit and appointments, outings for leisurely activity, and help with the activities of daily life. In some instances, communities may offer skilled nursing care, continuing care, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois has a number of stipulations related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health regulates this type of community. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Staff members obtain training in a variety of fields. These areas include residents’ need and service plans, confidentiality, promotion of dignity, and independence. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include non-medical services, emergency response systems, assistance with activities of daily living, and laundry. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, supervision of self-administered medications, and reading the medication label to residents.
